Where do I start with Three, the worst* UK mobile phone network with the worst customer services?
*in my opinion
I could launch into what a complete shower of trash this company are and rant and rave until I foam at the mouth, or I could just tell the story in a nice civilised fashion.
No I am going to foam at the mouth and tell it like it is.
April 2005 – I decided to get a new phone, so I went back to the Car Phone Warehouse where I had previously brought phones for my partner and I. I was after something up to date and modern, so I ended up with a Nokia 6630, this was a phone that had full web access, or so I was told at the time.
So there I am waiting my new phone to arrive, which it duly did only for it to be buggered (a great start), so I called Car Phone Warehouse who promptly sent me out another phone – Little did I realise that in 18 months the faulty phone would come back and bite me so hard in the arse that I would not screaming with pain.
In December 05, I wanted to use a new piece of software that allowed me to look after all my servers from my Nokia Mobile Phone, however after hours of setting up the software on the server and the mobile phone and testing I was left deflated.
I had techies from Canada full-time on the case trying to analyse what the problem was.
At that stage I tried another Nokia phone albeit using Vodafone – Hurrah, it all worked, so what the heck was going on, I had to get to the root of the problem, I had to call Three.
It was only after making a call to India (Three’s call centre) that I discovered that it was not indeed the software that was buggered on my Nokia 6630; My phone was not web-enabled, well that’s funny I’m sure that I purchased a web-ready mobile phone!
I was reliably informed by the call centre operative that if wanted to have full web-browse facility then I would have to pay for it.
Against my better judgement, I upgraded the phones capability.
Excitedly I waited 24 hours for the upgrade to go through and tried my new server administration kit on my Three phone – Did it work, did it heck as like.
OK, lets make another call to the sub-continent and see which non-caring person I would get on the ends of the phone on this occasion. So why I asked, would my mobile phone not allow me to get though to the server, the answer was due to the useless way in which Three allowed Web Coverage. At this time Three only allowed me access to sites of their choice!
What was the point of that? Surfing the net means choice, not shackles!
It was at that stage that I demanded a refund from Three on such a shocking service.
When my original contract of 18 months was coming to a conclusion I started looking for a new phone, being the tight-wad that I am, I was on the look-out for the best deal. Looking through the national papers I saw the advert for Dial-A-Phone who were offering some fantastic freebies, I was sorely tempted with a FREE XBOX360 with Dial-A-Phone as the contract price that I had was the same as what I had paid for the previous 18 months.
However, I had received various calls from Three with regards my contract and thought that if I could better my deal, gain a new phone and get a reduced cost then this would surely be best!
Well my new phone arrived in late September, so there I am thinking that I am awash with cash and Three have not completed their part of the bargain, my bill remained at the same price, so where was my half-price deal?
Another phone-call to India and I am promised that my account will be reduced for the next month, long-story short, the account was still not reduced when I next received a statement and thus I had to make another call to Three. For a company that was desperate to keep my business, they sure as hell do not give a damn once they have secured that business.
It was only when I made another call to India and get shirty with the call-centre operator that I finally got my bill reduced – Well done Three, it only took you three months to listen!
December 4th 2006
I am studying my bank records when I discover the fact that Three have been charging me for the faulty mobile phone that was sent back. At this stage I calculated that I overpaid Three to the tune of £630. Well you can imagine how shocked I was with this.
So once again I rang my friends at the Three call-centre. The first operative that I spoke to seemed genuinely to be quite helpful, I explained the situation and informed him that I wanted the money that had been erroneously taken from my account refunded. At this stage the operative put my through to another department. The department might well have been called the ‘We don’t give a shit department’ because quite frankly the guy on the end of the phone didn’t give a shit.
Here’s the really funny part.
So, it’s 11:30pm on a Monday night, my mobile phone network operator has told me to Foxtrot Oscar, so I tried to call Carphone Warehouse, there was no-one there, then I tried to call my bank in order to stop the direct-debit going through on an account I had no idea I was getting charged on, telephone banking was shut.
So now I had to go through the next 6 hours seething and trying to work out how on earth I was going to get my money back, to say that I did not get much sleep that night was an understatement.
Tuesday, 5th December.
First things first, I contacted my bank. The first operative was helpful, I explained the situation and she duly cancelled the erroneous direct-debit for £35. As I had explained the situation to her, she kindly went away to speak to a colleague in their indemnity department. She explained that if this department could help she would patch me through. A few minutes later she returned and informed me she was indeed going to patch me through.
When I spoke to the indemnity team I answered a few simple questions, moments later, the operative informed me that he was going to refund the money that Three had taken back into my account as he could see the error that had occurred. From what he told me, it was not the first time that he had come up against Three in this kind of instance. I doubt it will be the last.
Following the action of Barclays Bank, I called three back and asked to speak to the operative who was so uncaring about my case, he was not available so I asked for the operative to call me back, and to this day I am still waiting for his call! That really sums up Three!
So surely that is the end of the story – You’d think
December 29th 2006
Now Three have sent me a bill for £630 and have still yet to cancel the phone contract that I have never had. The fact that they have seemingly not cancelled the contract goes to further highlight what an absolute shower of shit they really are.
To be honest I am unsure as to my next move. There is no point calling their call-centre in India as they are puppets who are working to a script that says Sod Off English customer.
I think Three have a deliberate policy that is designed to wind-up people so that they give-up.
Well Three, I have news for your shite operation. I am not going to give-up, I am going to wipe the floor with your stinking festering mess of a company and I can assure you that if this case needs to go to court than it damn well will.
At this stage I do not know who to blame, is it Carphone Warehouse or is it Three or is it me? Who do you think is in the wrong?

1They are indeed the worst service provider, worst with customer relationship, looking at every available means of reaping you off, they are master at milking you of your money, has one of the worst coverage, rude operator, consistently inconsistent with deals they offer, have method of luring you to stay. I signed up to the mobile internet service and had nothing but trouble! In jan this year i spent ? 25 over three ( yes 3) days talking to someone in india who i can only describe as an idiot each time my credit ran out they ran me back and actually admitted that they couldnt help me!!! but guess what? they knew somone who could! so i ring them till my credit runs out and THEY ring me back to say they cant help[ but know who can!! All they were interested in was keeping me on their premium phone line as long as possible. Finally went with my new laptop back to PCWorld who told me there is a fault with the software in the 3modem. sooooooo….off i trot to my local 3 shop where they point blank refused to exchange said modem. eventually totally frustrated i phone india and tell them to shove their contratct up their arse cos im not paying for something that doesnt work!! there sorted…oh no!!! 3 days later a phone call form customer services asking if my problem was dealt with to my satisfaction!!!!!!! seriouslt 3mobile? forget absolute shite

33 are to blame my farther was billed ?75 for a phone that had beem robbed and cancelled, and at the moment my boyfreind is trying to cancell his contract with them and they tell him to call back on a different day, they say they need a month notice but yet his contract ends in july so how is he ment to cancell his contract with a months notice if they wont let him do it, i do beleave that 3 is a pile of shit and no one should use them!!!

sat lying in bed and nock my P.A.Y.G phone into a pint of juice, decided to go and geta contract to replace it. ttook 1 out with three after being warned not 2
1st problems started oer the insurance, the battery on the phone pretty much exploded and the said the insurance does not cover the battery wtf its part of the phone, i left it at that bought a new handset on three network and used my contract.
12 months in i got a new contract trhough orange, not a problem english callcneter 2 :O
so i dont use the thre contract.
18 months is up next month now comes the30 days notice, i called and was tod 5th june to call and give notice
i call 5th june then told 10th june. s i wait and call on the 10thtoday now told 12th june isearliest and have been offered so many new deals to stay
why is it s hard for three to understand i DNT FUCKIN WANT THIS CONTRACT they got 2 be the worst shower of pricks i know

8totally agree i hate the fukers , back in 2006 i got a contract with them so did my GF & 2 of my fiends & also the in-laws but i reccomended them to as at the time the deal was good & also to good to be true ,
At the end of our contracts most of us cancelled in writing etc & paid what we owed , 2 month later the mother in law getsa letter rom three saying they owe £140 so they the type of people that just pay so they did which i was not happy with ,
Next i got a letter sayng i owe something like £52 lol, idiots as though i am going to pay -i didnt as i did not owe them at all,
Same thing happened to my mate & also my GF , anyway i have moved house like 3 times now so i wouldnt know if they are still trying to bill me anyway . . . . . guess what , my mother in law gets a bill for £180 on 17/07/08 (other day), are they for fucking real ????
So we made sure she did not pay but she rang the company that has took on the debt from three & as usual they dont know anything apart from the amount she owes .. . . . . . what the hell is she supposed to do now?
I thought of telling her to ask for proof of debt etc but will probably just get bullshited & fobbed off,

9Near enough no signal in the Glasgow or Stirling areas, go to W Lothian or down the Ayrshire coast and you’ve got no chance. Wherever you are, your calls cutting off half way through, not connecting at all, 2 or 3 attempts to send a text and picture messaging that just jollywell doesn’t work are all factors which help you form your opinion that a 3 mobile is as useful as a chocolate fireguard yet their tele-sales team are quite happy to sit in their call centre (in Bombay) and lie through their back teeth to you about the fantastic service they provide.
I dont have to worry anymore, got to keep my phone number and am now thankfully back with T Mobile. My sympathies go to all of you who are experiencing what I have endured over the past 2-3 months!!!.

13I had my phone for a yr and I was quite happy with my phone and decided to have there broadband what a mistake that was!!! A modem was delievered on the friday worked great until the monday when it stopped working for 10 days they fobbed me off telling me it will be working within 24hrs. but it never worked so I phoned them and they told me that because it worked for 3 days I was still legally contracted for 18 months. I explained that it didn’t work but they didn’t care all they wanted was my money whether it worked or not. So I sent it back to them and they have had it for 2 months. Yesterday they sent me a bill for it, I haven’t even got it they have and they still want me to pay.Will I extend my phone contract NO CHANCE.

14I bought a 3 USB broadband..It never worked so io sent it abck to thier Glasgow address…
They then sent it back..
I rang them back and told them i was in my 14 days and i wanted to return it and they said they would send me an envelope…Still havnt recieved it ( 3 weeks on)

15I have the misfortune of usinf their mobile “broadband”. Fortunately on PAYG.
I came back tonight and it took twenty minutes to get on to the 2 site to check my balance.
On line shares quotes expire before I see them.
If I get as much a 56Kbps … well if that ever happens I’ll be amazed.
I currently have five web pages refresshing mostly at under 10Kbps.
Last week I needed to download an 80 meg file. It finisahed at an average rate of just over 3 (yes three) Kbps.
And all this in a ‘good’ area. I’m getting two bars of HSDPA.
If I need help I can phone a 0870 number and teach and idiot English
This is worse than a 9600 dial up modem I used twenty years ago.
The ONLY good aspect is that it is impossible to exceed 1 gigabyte per month.

16yep, i feel all of these folks pain. I have had a three mobile phone on contract for over 3 yrs now. Recently i lost a phone that was almost out of its current contract. After two days of looking for it i called three and had it switched off. They told me i could have a new phone sent out as my current contract was due to expire in a few weeks. All was well untill my first bill of the new contract…….It was for almost £300 instead of the £20 i was expecting. As I read the bill it turned out that over the two days it took me call three and get my lost phone switched off, whoever found my phone downloaded almost every possible internet content, calls abroard and all sorts!!!!! I didnt have any kind of insurance on the phone and I understand that I would be liable to pay this but at no time when they were arranging my new contract did they once mention the huge bill that was coming my way, and once i’d taken delivery of the new phone and used it i was fu@ked!
Naturally I called them and explained and got the usuall 3 repsonse. Not our problem sir. The fact that i’d been a loyal customer with them for over three years did not matter. I cancelled my direct debit immediatly and refused to pay. After a few months i got a letter from a debt collection agency telling me that the baillfs we’re coming round!!!
I felt i didnt have much choice other than to pay the bill. Not once did the call centre in india sound even slightly interested or sorry about the situation. And when I told them I would never take out a new contract with them they didnt even blink. I’m currently waiting for my current contract to expire.
As for wireless broadband. wot a complete waste of time. I could send a letter quicked than that. I can get full signal and still be slower than dial up. NO NO NO NO DO NOT SUBSRIBE TO 3. ESPECIALLY THE BROADBAND SERVICE. IT IS SOOOOOOOOO SLOW IT HURTS.

17Mobile broadband running at under 10kb/s does NOT constitute a service. I spent over 4 months trying to resolve the poor performance problem, maybe faulty kit etc. replaced the usb modem – eventually chucked in the towel and asked to cancel – go back to fixed line solution. Yes no problem just pay the cancellation fee – which happens to amount to 7 months rental, the remaining 7 months of my contract. And the nob said i could cancel now and pay it all in one go… jasus faking kroist i said… The contention ratio that 3 deems satisfactory is so bad that I am now running at less than 10 kb/s every day, all day – worse than dial-up used to be in the 90’s this is central Southampton. I spent the weekend in Birmingham and took my laptop with me to check if the service was any better – I was hitting around 600kb/s – fantastic!! FACT – they don’t give a shit and all they want is your monthly direct debit, there is no service, you are speaking to an idiot with a script, when my contract expires I will walk away from this bunch of clowns and NEVER return. If you are tempted to do business with these people, do yourself a favour and run a mile – I wish somebody had warned me…

18Yes I have had similar problems with Three, their customer services are useless in store and on line, I think they train their reps to be good at passing the buck! I have a Nokia slide and have even been told that it isn`t very compatible with their network but they are only offering to give me a rubbish phone worth half the price.
They never phone back when they say they will and they keep changing their terms and conditions.
My advice would be go to a different service provider like O2 or T mobile I think they are slightly more helpful

19They cancelled my son’s PAYG SIM because he was using it in a 2G phone but refuse to refund the credit bought in good faith. I went through Oftel, and they advised me to send a “final letter of complaint”, but it made no difference. Oftel said I need to request a Deadlock letter and go to the ombudsman Otelo. I requested the deadlock letter, then got a call from India – she said she had to pass me to her supervisor as she was not authorised to issue a deadlock letter. Her supervisor said he had to pass me to his manager as he was not authorised to issue a deadlock letter….his manager said she had to pass me to her manager as she was not authorised to issue a deadlock letter but that would be the last part of the escalation procedure…….crap. Her manager rang me and said she wasn’t authorised, but her manager would ring me and he might be able to issue one, or he may have to pass me to his manager. When I’ve spoken to the MD and finally got my deadlock letter I will be persuing the refund of credit through Otelo. It’s a point of principle now – the credit is £7!! Avoid three at all costs.

22My new phone arrived but did not function correctly, there was a faulty transmitter in my area, they had put me on a plan did not have what I had request (deliberate misrepresentation) Have spent the last 6 weeks talking for about 18 hours to completely useless 3 customers services, have written 2 letters to them at their Glasgow address no reply or acknowledgment and I still have the faulty phone. I worked in several 3rd world countries with mobile phone systems that are far superior to what 3 offer in the UK. I would vote “3″ as being the worst company with the absolute pits of a Customer Service Dept (should be named Customer Diservice Dept)

24I think it’s sour grapes you all have, I use 3 have done for 2 years, and use 3 Mobile Broadband on the train with no connection/speed issues, except at Shenfeld and my Work Vodaphone and my old 02 cut out here as well, so not a 3 issue. Still some people just like to moan.
and yes I have used customer service, when I left 3 after there first year in service, but came back after t-mobile as felt husbands service on 3 was better then mine on t-mobile!

26Tbh, i told them they were a bunch of cunts… There service is abysmal, and their software is extremely unstable on my Mac. I am in a area where i achieve 5 bars on signal in the connection window and even on my 3 mobile phone, why on earth i am still with them god knows, as for getting a deadlock letter, impossible, they dont know english at the customer service centre in fucking bombay, i dont want to speak to a fucking indian, i want to speak to an english person in fucking england… but hey, im only a paying customer, and as for sour grapes, well you try using their broadband here and soon youll be banging your head against a brick fucking wall, everybody should avoid three like the plague, as they are one of the worst networks, and its not just people in the UK, people using their european networks have similar problems, i have even wrote to their parent company in Hong Kong to no avail… this network is FUCKING SHIT, DO NOT USE IT UNLESS YOU WISH TO WASTE YOUR MONEY OR HAVE SOME FORM OF RETARDATION.

32I joined 3 after a few months of making enquirys, I signed up for there mobile broardband package, when i signed up they promiced me that i was in an area that was well covered for there “turbo” broardband, since I have had there modem they sent me i am lucky to get any signal at all , so i have been intouch with them to explain this and have told them that i have been missold the service, but i was prepaired to upgrade my broardband package to a phone package of the same value as i already had an old 3 handset but they just told me to fuck off and that there was nothing i could do and they where going to hold me to my 18 month contract even though its useless to me!

35I called Three up in December to make sure my contract wouldn’t renew. They told me it would, but made no record of it, so I received another bill today. After 3 hours of PLEADING with them to allow me to cancel my account, they finally did. So now they’ve stolen £40 from me, and there’s nothing I can do.
If you’re considering going with Three, dont. All customer service is in India, and they LITERALLY don’t care about your situation at all. Even when I was SCREAMING down the phone “THIS IS MY 30 DAYS NOTICE, DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!?!??” they STILL insisted on trying to offer me more deals. They are just like robots. Stay away from these con artists for your own sake.

40oh my god!!!!!!!!!!! three are the worst mobile network ever! they completely done me over when i was a student. they basically robbed me, and i was hardly coping as it was. they are not helpful in the slightest and i am stuck with them for another year and a bit. im really not happy about it. i wonder if we got a petition together, we could make it possible for unhappy customers to be enabled to cancel their contract with them? bcaus i think its really unfair, that cons like them, so obviously stealing money, can be protected by their corrupt rights. please help me! i hate them and theyve taken nearly all my money:(
