I have been silly enough to buy two of these. The first failed when the drive gave up...fair enough; that happens sometimes with drives.
The second failed after about two weeks,when the USB connection dropped inside the case, which I then discovered is almost impossible to open. Shoddy plastic crap. I want a metal one next time. Build quality matters.

Recently purchased from Amazon and quickly received using their "Super Saver" delivery. A good price for 500GB.
Quite an attractive design with a fairly small footprint.
True "plug And play" and quiet in operation. In fact, other than the slight "pulsing" of the vertical yellow strip, it's hard to tell it is working. I've had a smaller capacity Seagate external HD for some time now and if this one is as reliable then I'll be more than happy.
The pre-loaded backup software is not as good, in my opinion, as the Windows XP version which I'll be using. It's very basic and difficult to know what is actually being backed up!
So other than the backup software, well worth buying if you need an external and separate means of backing up your stuff.

I have used this drive for 1 year now with no problems. Whisper quiet and warm during operation, very stylish housing and easy to switch off via plug-play manager. Thoroughly recommend this drive and indeed Seagate drives in general as I have used them since the 1990's with no problems.

Four months after buying this drive, its power supply failed. This is apparently quite a common problem with this make of drive - just Google Seagate power supply fail. No help from Seagate. No way to replace the power supply without buying *another* hard drive! I'm not buying anything else from Seagate, and I urge you not to as well: their aftercare sucks.

Works fine, no real complaints to be honest.
Note though: while this will work perfectly for data storage, it was quite slow when it came down to streaming video of it. I need to copy and paste the file back onto my computer to stream it without the video slowing down every so often. Checked with my other computers as well and it's the same problem. Shame really, it's otherwise great.
