1 out of 5 stars Worst product ever   August 15, 2008
Matias Puga (London UK)
As many reviewers are already commenting, this product is the worst I've bought in my life. 2 My book, one of 250GB and another of 500 GB failed in just a year in the same way as explained by most of the reviewers... The sad thing, is that aside of the useless warranty, you will surely loose ALL your data.... so is MORE THAN "BAD LUCK" as customer support people said to me..
PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCTS, NOT ANY "MY BOOK" hardrive, YOU WILL REGRET IT AND DON'T SAY WE DIDN'T TELL YOU...

2 out of 5 stars Nice product, rubbish reliability   August 2, 2008
Hugh Gallagher (United Kingdom)
I was quiet happy with my purchase when I got it. It looks nice, wasn't too noisy, and the write speeds were OK.

My disk failed 14 months after purchase, which was annoying, as it was out of warranty, and I was using it as a backup drive.

I've decided to replace my backup solution with a 250 GB Seagate ST3250620A, installed into an Icy Box, and connected to a NSLU2 device. This should be a better solution, as the ST3250620A is proven to be a much more reliable disk, and I can replace it easily if and when it fails.

3 out of 5 stars Works well on the desktop and as part of overall storage system   July 16, 2008

I'm relatively happy with the 250Gb version of this drive. It's stylish, quiet and fast enough for everyday use. If you're mindful of some other reviews and don't rely on it exclusively, then it's worth considering as a value for money drive.

1 out of 5 stars Another Failed Drive   July 7, 2008

Have to say this drive has caused nothing but problems. I store my extensive music collection on it which took me years to build up and countless hours to get onto my computer. The drive had glitches since new. Constantly had write errors and dropping offline.
Decided after it started getting worse to try in my server with a little bit more stability from a decent power supply and guess what!! No joy at all. The case looks nice so a nice Seagate sata drive is going into it.
Avoid Western Digital they are cheaply made and there are much better drives out there.
Opening the case is fun tho!!

1 out of 5 stars Too good to be true...   July 7, 2008

I've bought 3 WD drives - now - all 500gb models. The first to die is the MyBook which was about 9 months old. I bought it to run with Apple's Time Machine backup - which, to be fair it did for about 6 months. Then the failures started happening, again and again and again. Then the drive (connected over FireWire) started to create Finder problems, system freezes, application installation errors. Even after reformatting the disk at least a dozen times. I found this out by a long and lengthy process of elimination. And don't waste your time with Western Digital's website - utter confusion and lousily written software. I'm back with LaCie's products again. A bit noisier but rock solid & reliable performers. Western Digital - shame on you for second rate equipment.
