3 out of 5 stars First timer   January 21, 2008

Well this is my first DS game so ok not much to compare it to yet....but I like it. Ok there are the camera angles and I appreciate what people are saying but it is a nice easy introduction to something which clearly explains what to do.

I would recommend this as a starter game!

3 out of 5 stars Way too much running up and down staircases.   January 14, 2008

I did enjoy the game, but maybe because this is the first Harry Potter I have played.
BUT, I must say there is far too much runing up and down the staircases.
i.e - start in common room - go to the hospital wing = 15 staircases and 8 corridors later! You get a bit bored.
Then the next task sends you to another location, which annoyingly goes BACK up the damn staircases and along anther pile of corridors.
I agree about the camera angles too, they are a bit all over the place.

2 out of 5 stars Snore!   January 7, 2008

Having just completed the Goblet of Fire I was looking forward to more of the same from this - Oh how wrong I was.

You play Harry and you have to wonder around the castle going through mundane tasks in order to recruit members of the DA. You constantly run into Malfoy and his cronies which makes for good duelling practice. As other reviews have pointed out the compass is hardly any use sometimes and on occassion you have to get the angle of entering a room just so or you have no chance.

As well as the lessons to complete, there are out of school activities chocolate frogs, quiddich and exploding snap. You can also play gobstones with some of the yonger members of the common room. Once you have completed some lessons and tasks, you earn magic points which enables you to go to DA meetings and practise spells to build up your power. Even the later challenges are not that good.

If you are looking for a follow up to Goblet of Fire, save your money and just replay it!

1 out of 5 stars WHAT A RIP-OFF!   January 6, 2008

I love everything about the Harry Potter world- the books, the films and the games. Therefor, I was extremely disappointed after waiting days for it to be delivered to my doorstep that it was a complete waste of money and time! The camera is annoying, the duels are ok, but you usually only get to fight Malfoy, the Quidditch(the thing that I buy all Harry Potter games for) was EXACTLY the same as Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup on GBA, the tasks are pointless, the music is SO annoying, the lessons-hardly any of them! I could go on and on, but my fingers are sore from typing! My last words to you all are- Whatever you do, DO NOT EVEN THINK OF BUYING THIS GAME!

4 out of 5 stars I like it!   December 30, 2007

I know this game has gotten a lot of stick and some pretty bad reviews but I like it!

I admit it is not the most exciting game I have ever played but is not too challenging and that is what I wanted! I don't like having to play the same levels over and over again because they are too difficult to get through and I don't like feeling so frustrated with the difficulty of a game that I'll throw it to the side and not attempt it again.

The main game is a little boring and does involve a lot of running around Hogwarts doing mini side quests. The best bits are the mini games - Gobstones, Exploding Snap, Quidditch and the lessons! The lessons are really good and involve Transfiguration, Charms, Divination, Potions, Astronomy, History of Magic, Herbology. You also get to do your OWLs in these subjects!

I like it - and if, like me, you are a Harry Potter fan then you'll probably welcome any chance to 'do spells' and 'make magic'.
