Homelessness really gets my goat; I cannot see why anyone is homeless when there are so many empty properties around. I am aware there are those people that like to live rough; for some there may be an exception to the rule, but for the many people who have had rotten bad luck and are homeless for whatever reason more has to be done to help.
I was driving the other day through Worthing town centre when I saw the old police station that was still in a state of emptiness; nothing has changed since the last time I drove through Worthing, which was some months ago, the Police Station was just as empty then. Now I cannot understand why this building is not used as a half-way house for homeless people.
It is poetic that a disused police station is going to criminal waste!
According to the statistics of Worthing Borough Council, there are officially only three homeless people in the town.
A little message from MrCrip to Worthing Borough Council – You are talking absolute crap!
This incorrect statement as published in the local press is (and was) absolute garbage; I know for a fact that in one part of the town there are at least half a dozen homeless people, so where the local council get their facts from is a complete mystery. But it should come as no surprise that politicians no matter what level lie.
The councillors at Worthing Borough Council are quite simply full of bull; it is a ridiculous idea that Worthing which has a population of 100,000, has only three people living rough. Why is is politicians (and I use that term very loosely about local councillors) think the public are so stupid?
So why is it that an empty PUBLIC building is not used to help the members of the PUBLIC that desperately need help? It us an utter disgrace that people have to cart their possessions around in supermarket trolleys and sleep rough when there is a building that can house them!
I find it incredulous that local councillors can sleep at night in their First Avenue type properties knowing that ineffectual policy and their back-slapping ways effectively shorten the life span of other human beings!
Supermarkets do not escape my wrath either; with all the sell by dates, the likes of Tescos, Sainsburys, Waitrose, Morrisons and Asda should all be sending a van around to a homeless hostel each night with provisions.
Good plan. but why should homeless people get accommodation and food for free? Indeed, homeless people should not get it all for free; once integrated into a super shelter; the residents would then have to partake in community projects including rubbish clearance, gardening, painting and decorating for the elderly or the disabled.
Seriously, homelessness is wrong, there is no need, and I lay the blame solely at the feet of ineffectual local councillors like those that poorly govern the borough of Worthing. There is plenty of property throughout the UK that could be used to help the homeless, but as with everything else in this world, it is all driven by greed and those that can make a difference just don’t give a damn!

1According to the first study I found on the interweb thingy, 20-25% of homeless people suffer from some form of severe mental illness that prevents them from carrying out their daily lives. I have heard that figure be as high as 75%.
Reading what you’ve said, you think it’s right to put a person who is obviously suffering and struggling to survive to work, cleaning and tidying to improve your quality life?

2If you are homeless I can only image you would have no GP and thus could not be referred to an expert – it’s a vicious circle. Further to that are you saying that 75% of Big Issue vendors are mentalists?

3Haha. I see you’re point. No, I’m not saying 75% of the people selling BIg Issue are mentally unwell. I accept that there are a percentage of people who are fully capable of doing a days work.
What concerns me is your seemingly blanket policy of subjegation of those who are driven to a life on the streets because mental illness prevents them leading a normal life.

4But if the government were able to offer proper sanctuary to the homeless then over a period of time those with mentall illness problems could be assessed and possibly treated.
No matter what anyone does there is always likely to be those who slip through the net. That said for the homeless it would help if there were a net in place in the first place!
