The English are Pathetic

I am English born and bred, but headlines like I have just seen on the BBC site really wind me up. The headline was to do with Scotland’s Andy Murray who has just completed his first match in the US Open Tennis Tournament at New York’s Flushing Meadow.

Here is the headline ‘Britain’s Andy Murray’ that got my goat. Sorry, but Andy Murray is Scottish, not British.  It is a totally pathetic trait to latch onto to anyone outside of England of Scottish, Welsh or Irish nationality who is in the remotest bit successful. For one, Andy Murray is very anti-English, and fair enough. For two it is indicative of the dire sports infrastructure in England that we are not capable of producing more decent tennis players. Who do I blame? Of course I blame the incumbent Government!

Scotlands Andy Murray

Personally I think Tennis is a waste of time. It’s a sport for hooray henry’s and I would rather watch The Sound of Music repeatedly for 48 hours than subject myself to a couple of privileged knobs whacking a rubber ball about. My thoughts on pony tennis are beside the by, the fact is the English media and that includes the untouchable BBC need to address this problem.

Andy Murray is Scottish, yes he is British, but don’t widen the net so England can claim a hero, it’s a load of tosh.

It’s the same with David Coulthard, he is Scottish. Before Jenson Button and now Lewis Hamilton came onto the Formula One scene, the English media latched onto him quicker than Kerry Katona finds cocaine and booze at a party. Now that we have quality English  Formula One drivers, the English media do not give a flying fig about ‘Scotland’s David Coulthard’. But I guarantee you this, if Rangers or Celtic got to the Champions Legaue Final, the English media would be milking it. Either team would not be Scottish, but British - it’s wrong, plain and simple.

This is why the English are pathetic. I have no problem with cheering for a British person, after all we all live on the same rock, but that is as far as it goes. If a miracle happened and England actually produced another decent tennis player such as Fred Perry (I cannot include Tim ‘loser’ Henman as the idiot bottled it and never won a grand slam), you can bet your bottom dollar the only time Andy Murray would make column inches in England then is if he played our quality English tennis player.

Oh what a sad, sad country this is.

I agree about Murray - no way is he British. I have always hated Jocks with a passion, this feeling passed down from my dad who hates them so much you would never believe. IMHO they didn’t build Hadrian’s Wall high enough.

However, what is so wrong wth The Sound of Music? Until recently it was my favourite all-time film - a classic.

Music is the food of love………..play on (as long as it ain’t tennis).
