Ski Insurance, read the small print!
An article by the Telegraph has highlighted both the medical and insurance worries that are associated with skiing holidays.
The article points out that one in four Brits do not take out ski insurance policy to cover them, an alarming number when considering that one in seven skiers will face some kind of injury on the slopes.
Medical costs can be astronomical, particularly if you require repatriation which could send medical bills soaring into the thousands, and despite what many people believe, their European Health Insurance Card will not cover their medical bill and is there to cover minor medical treatment.
The article highlights the importance of taking out actual winter sports cover as opposed to the standard travel insurance as you are unlikely to be covered for injuries caused on skiing holidays.
Even with ski insurance, you should check the small print as some activities will not be covered as they may be deemed too dangerous. What this means is, should you become injured whilst heli-skiing, you’re insurance may not cover you and all medical bills will become your own responsibility.
