Post Office Ripping off OAP’s - OFFICIAL!
My partner asked me to buy Travel Insurance for her Mother during the week, so I thought I would check out the Post Office as they are very popular for such things.
We all know the Post Officer is in trouble at this time; there are Post Offices going to be closing all over the UK and you have to wonder why this is?
Now I can tell you why that is. It appears the Post Office is charging people well over the top when it comes to things like Travel Insurance.
Case in question:
I have to buy Travel Insurance for a 67 year old pensioner.
The quote from the Post Office came out at £50.50, like the famous line from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, ‘it seemed expensive’. So I did a search for Travel Insurance in Yahoo and went to the site listed in the top position which was ‘Travel Insurance Direct’.
I did not expect too much from the site but I have to say that I was gobsmacked when the quote came back.
Travel Insurance Direct wanted to charge me only £16.
I was very taken back by this and as a result I phoned them company up to make sure it was correct and that I was not being sold a bum policy.
The team member I spoke to at Travel Insurance Direct explained why the policy was less than others. It was for the reason they were not applying a surcharge on age. It was this surcharge with the Post Office that had hiked the price up.
I did not need convincing and within a few minutes the Travel Cover was sorted out and a much better price.
The lesson learnt was go to an expert and not a Jack of all Trades. Travel Insurance Direct offered a good Travel Insurance policy at a good price. The Post Office have a business model, but I don’t feel that should include ripping off old people with Travel Insurance costs.
