Motability Car Lease vs Normal Car Lease
It’s time for a new car, so what car lease is now right for MrCrip?
My current three years is nearly upon me for my current vehicle that I have through Motability. I thought now would be a good time to look to see if there were any suitable alternatives to the Motability scheme as there are so many Car Leasing companies about.
The question is and was would any of these car leasing companies be able to offer the extras that Motability has to offer the disabled driver, the simple answer is no.
But that is not to say one should not look around to see if there are some good deals out there as not everyone likes to be tied in to the Motability scheme, and let us not forget that until recently handing a car back to a draconian Motability dealer was like being tried for murder, it was tough!
As there are so many other car leasing companies I thought I would look at only one - which luckily (or unluckily for them) was a company called Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
Nationwide Vehicle Contracts offer any vehicle on the books of the various manufacturers, so I thought the best way to look at this was to look at the costs of three different vehicles.

As you can see there is a huge gulf in costs between the private and government funded scheme. The Motability scheme in my mind is without doubt the right scheme if you are disabled and you wish to have trouble free motoring over the three year period.
There are two other factors that I have not allowed for, those being: Car Insurance and Breakdown Cover.
Both of these elements are covered as part of the Motability car lease scheme but would of course be extra if you decided to go down the private route.
Personally I can not see any reason why anyone who is receiving the higher rate Disabled Living Allowance would want to lease from anything else other than the official Motability scheme.

Have you costed out buying a vehicle with a 5 year warranty? Then trading it in for the next model in three years time when MOT’s become necessary?
Whilst you are about it order and have the wheelchair hoist fitted before registration and get the car tax free …. that’ll slightly more than compensate fot the cost of the electric hoist.
Oh by the way, do it based on a bank loan if the readies are not available ATM.
cheers

PS If you do peg it whilst ‘owning’ it your survivor gets to keep the car … but has to stump up for the car tax..
