Don't waste your time. August 13, 2008 Z (London) After reading the conflicting reviews I decided to give it a go, hoping I would be among those who love it. I did love it, until it died exactly a week of me getting it. It seems many people have had had the same problem. I can only say I'm thankful I can return it to Amazon rather than go through the hassle of the warranty. I'm not even bothering with an exchange, I'm going for the full refund.
Great Looks, Easy to operate, Long battery life August 10, 2008 S. Page (UK) Arrived in a small square box with a CD, Headphones, Lanyard for wearing around your neck, USB extension cable and manuals. If you can plug this device into your PC or Mac then great, many will be able to and likewise it might be too wide for many so they included a short USB extension which I need, so thats all taken care of right out of the box. Plug it in, charge it up. Load it up with tracks. Its very easy to use with its 2 colour OLED display which is exteremely clear to read, even for the small size. As usual the headphones arent the best, but at this pricepoint that is what I would expect. Replacing them with my nicer Sennheisers makes a huge difference and this player does have good audio quality. The battery charges quickly and lasts for ages, never yet ran out of battery so thats good. Nothing to install, just works as a USB drive on PC or Mac. Unlike many other players of this size, the display is mirrored, so looks good when the display turns off as well, when the display is on, it shines through the mirror. Kind of half mirror effect so not totally silvered. Very nice to look at. Sturdy design and I was very surpised, having used lots of other similar devices to find out the quality of the in-built microphone for recording (WAV format), just dont speak INTO it, point it upwards when recording for best quality and to remove that pop effect (exhaling) as you speak. Neck lanyard is useful, fits onto the USB cap which is a good tight click fit so it wont come off too easily. Equaliser and different ways to find music artist, album, track, etc. Good bit of kit for an amazingly low price. Add to that the ability to expand the player using microSD cards and you have some degree of future proofing or just a cheeky way to access your MicroSD cards via your PC. Excellent, recommended. What I would expect from a name such as SanDisk.
Great budget MP3 player! July 31, 2008 D. Youster When i got this in the post i was very impressed with its compact size. It offers good sound quality and useful Audiobook support. Probably the biggest benefit this player offers is the expandable memory which i am very pleased with. One disappointment, however, is that this model dosn't come with an FM radio (which i was quite looking forward to). This is partly my fault as i didn't realise that some models don't include this feature. Other than that... BARGAIN!!!
gone and quickly forgotten... July 24, 2008 C. T. Kottas (UK) Bought mine at Amazon whilst looking for something light and simple to slip in the pocket and listen to music during daily commuting. Chosen for the mini-SD slot, ease of use (drag + drop file transfer), usb charging, published battery life and of course the price. Almost as soon as it arrived, the originally supplied "99p" earphones went to the bin and replaced by a pair of ear-canal Senheisers. That led to a significant upgrade in the quality of sound of course. Sound quality apart, the player never really managed to impress. Instead there were frequent issues with programming shuffle playback, frozen screens or sudden power-offs (firmware i assume). File transfer rate proved very slow plus that annoying animation at start up, the "devil", was a complete downer. Just about the time that i had learnt to live with all these hitches, the battery went flat and the player followed the way to the bin just like its earphones before. Lasted something less than 5 months, it's gone and already forgotten...
Sorry Sandisk but this little begger is best avoided. July 5, 2008 Honest John (UK) I originally purchased this item from Amazon in mid Februarry 2008. 2Gb seemed a fair amount of storage for what I wanted (mostly talking books)and the price was very reasonable The first one I received from Amazon was faulty - its internal battery (which is charged via a computer USB port) wouldn't hold a charge. I contacted Amazon and they were good enough to send me a replacement even before receiving the original back. This second one has gone the same way. All in all it's not proven to be a very robust or well designed player. A pity because I usually like Sandisk drives (I have several of their 4Gb flash drives and they're very good performers and also very reliable. What with trying to update the flashware as soon as I received it and constantly trying to charge what now appears to be another duff battery, I suggest looking elsewhere for an MP3 player.
