Product Description Combining the functions of a pen, scanner and a USB key, DANE-ELECs Zpen is a revolutionary work tool! Its compact and lightweight, and has a pen format, so you can scan texts at home, in the office or on your travels. Once its up and running, all you need to do is upload texts onto your computer; its keyword search function makes scanning documents even easier, too. The Zpen can also be used as a traditional pen for writing on paper, and as a USB key for storing and transporting photos, music and videos thanks to its 1 GB capacity.

A work in progress November 17, 2008 Graham Terry (Claypole, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As yet I am not impressed with this gadget. My first ZPen was faulty - after charging it for the requisite 6 hours I found that the transmitter (the pen) carried on sending a signal even if it was off the page, resulting in hideous squiggle when looking at the document on the PC. The item was quickly replaced by the seller (Select Home Shopping - via Amazon) so no problems there. The second Zpen, after charging, also did not work - the receiver is not recognised by my (or several other) PC's, even after re-setting, as recommended by the Dane Elec website. The battery is also uncomfortably warm, after only a few minutes plugged in to the USB port. I am sending this one back also and willing to give it one last try. Two further points 1 - there are several review websites out there that suggest that these problems are not uncommon - so I must be stupid to give it another go! 2 - Despite having a contact name at Dane Elec, given to me by the seller, and sending one email to him and two to their Tech Support service, I have had no contact at all from them, not even a message to say the emails have been recieved. This is also a common theme on the review sites. In summary, I still wait to be impressed by this item.
Nightmare to find refills November 9, 2008 S. Kaye (UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a brilliant tool, easy to use, time saving and the handwriting to RTF recognition software I would say is about 95% accurate with my writing (which varies from neat to scribble). I have one complaint though, the refill in the pen only lasted for 6 weeks of lectures (15 hours per week) and then I had to order replacements from the US because finding anywhere that sells them over here (Schmidt 628 if you're interested) seemed impossible. This means my pen has been out of action for over a week. In the meantime I tracked down some refills in Selfridges on Oxford St (more by chance than anything). They are Parker Vector 3-in-1 refills and I find them much smoother to write with. I thought I should share this info to save everyone else the hassle I went through. All in all it's a great tool and would've got 5 starts, but I wish I'd been given a spare refill rather than being shocked at how quickly it ran out and the pen being useless till I found replacements.
Its just works October 30, 2008 Haydon Perryman (Bedfordshire, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is an amazing bit of kit. It takes about half an hour to profile your own handwriting, after that its plain sailing. One word of warning, you'll be returning this product if you don't charge it for six hours before using it. I highly recommendation this product.
Great product for students October 5, 2008 KM (Scotland) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I bought this for myself for note taking and ended up giving it to my daughter as she has jus started university, It works really well and the conversion is not bad either just a few things need to be ammended, slight problem with converting diagrams but save lots of time not having to type up notes, Many of her uni friends now want one. My daughter now admits this is a better purchase than the new laptop that she bought having been told she would need one, she now realises that carrying a laptop around is not really that feasible but this little product just fits in any pocket and can be used in any environment and then taken home and popped into any type of computer laptop or desktop.
It really works! August 14, 2008 J. Burnand (Bath, UK) 67 out of 67 found this review helpful
This Dane-Elec Zpen has now become an essential business tool that I use every day. All my hand written notes can now be converted into an MS Word document at the press of a button. Hard to review this item without sounding like a computer geek but it must save me 60% to 80% of my time in typing. Very easy to use and truly brilliant technology. Once you see it being used you will want to buy one. Simple as that.
