Don't Be Put Off By Bad Review August 31, 2008 Richard Allen 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I note someone has posted a bad review following their experience with one of these items. Did he consider he might just have had a faulty unit and asked for a replacement? I've had mine for a year or so and it's still the best bit of kit I've purchased. Others have explained all the benefits a PVR brings to TV viewing, with which I fully agree. To address the two "issues": mine has frozen perhaps twice in a year, and it can be recovered by switching it off and on again with no loss of content. As for the fan, I simply don't notice it when I'm watching TV. Highly recommended.
First Class August 6, 2008 Robert Sanford (London, UK) Most of what needs to be said has been mentioned by other reviewers. I have used other PVRs but this blows them out of the water. There are some minor gripes, but no product of this type is going to be perfect. If Humax is listening, I'd like to see a better text entry function (maybe allow a keyboard attachment - how about bluetooth?) and perhaps a LAN connection (?) would be very nice. I have seen one bad review here. Not my experience. I've had mine for over 6 months now and it froze once. That's it. I also agree that the support is not so great and the manual is pretty ropey. However, it is so easy to use and so relaible you are unlikely to require either. It's not perfect, but it's the best out there!
Don't believe these other reviewers....... August 1, 2008 Mr Bean (London UK) 2 out of 20 found this review helpful
I would like to take issue with the other reviewers of this product that praised it to the rafters and convinced me to buy it. Well all I can say is I wonder how many of them actually work for Humax! Thank heavens for Argos as they took this heap of rubbish back without any quibbles exactly one week after I bought it. To all those positive reviewers, please tell me what you think of a product that freezes at least once a day less than two days after you bought it? Why would you recommend such cr*p to others? The only way I found to fix it is to unplug it! So much for all those improvements in the software one of you was praising. I'm afraid you have totally destroyed my faith in these types of reviews so thanks very much for that, too. To anyone considering buying one of these boxes - DON'T!!!! However, if you decide to ignore me then buy it from your local Argos store (sorry, Amazon) because at least if it does predictably go wrong within the first 30 days they'll take it back with no moans - and hopefully dump all over Humax for supplying such junk - without you having to go through the trouble of going to the post office. [Please note that I intend to post this review on the other sites I visited in trying to choose a PVR so that all those 'reviewers' get the message as well - even if they're the same ones?!]
One of the best though out bits of consumer electronics - ever !!! July 19, 2008 S. J. Sharpe (Bushey Heath, Watford) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This has got to be the best AV purchase I have made in the last 10 or possibly 20 years - Video and DVDr are made redundant - its only failing is that you cannot play DVDs through it and therefore need a separate DVD player. I previously had a Samsung HDD/DVD recorder which had the most user unfriendly, un-intuitive controls known to man. Thankfully it ceased to function after a few weeks and Amazon refunded the cost without fuss. I looked at the Sony ranges but they were not half as user friendly as the HUMAX. The recorder is plug and play and it even auto-updates the software on the air. To record a programme look it up on the electronic programme guide - put the cursor on the programme and press OK - its that simple. Picture and sound quality are excellent and it's crammed with useful and, unlike most of the others, accessible, easy-to-use functions such as time delay, picture-in-picture and simultaneous recording on 2 different channels due to the twin tuners. Several friends have seen ours and as a result are now Humax owners - if you have any doubts - find someone who has one, have a play and you will be hooked. Oh yes, final thing it comes with a 2-year guarantee as standard so peace of mind at no extra cost. Love it to bits - I just wish all consumer electronics were as well thought out !!!!!!!Humax PVR9200TB Freeview
First rate product...with one small quibble! July 12, 2008 John Asquith (Norwich UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had this machine for nearly two weeks now and I have no hesitation in giving it a high satisfaction rating. It is very easy to set up and use...the manual is user friendly. The playback quality of the recordings is excellent. My only quibble is the noise it makes when in recording mode...slightly annoying.
