One thing not mentioned in the spec on this site but indicated on the box is that this is not a single drive. It is in fact a 1TB volume spanning 2 500gb SATA drives.
The drive comes preformated. The fact it is two drives is totally transparent to the user. I have not tried and Im unsure if its possible to reformat as two seperate drives. Logic dictates that a single volume using 2 drives is more at risk that a single mechanism also if it was possible to configure each drive as a seperate volume, on failure you would only lose the data on the faulty drive, not both.
The general build quality is good. The drives are housed in a sturdy metal case powered by an external inline power supply.
The drive seems fast enough and like most USB drives under XP, you can just plug it in and start using it.
The drive is rather heavy but then it is described as a desktop device.
The main criticism though is that the drive seems very noisy. The noise seems to come from an internal fan rather than the drives as the noise is constant and makes it unsuitable for certain applications such as attached to a mediaplayer. It is a pity about the noise issue as it is a good looking drive that looks like it belongs on a desktop rather than be buried out of earshot.
