I've had one of these and two other Lacie drives die on me - completely and suddenly, making noises and with scarily flickering light but refusing to mount - and only a few months out of warranty. In the same period I have other drives, Formacs, run fine. I'd give Lacie no stars if I could. It doesn't mean that all Lacies are bad, just means that you too could have the same experience. Beware!

jeaz RTFM! How can you give lacie a bad review for that? For the record all my lacie drives have been rock solid, been using them over 7 years.

what a pain. you see a 500GB Lacie drive and think at this price it's got to be good. My other Lacies are good.
BUT the blurb said it was Mac compatible.
My fault I didn't read all the numbers D2500GBSATAII7200RPM16MB. Yes it's the SATA thing in the middle which is only compatible with SOME macs. Not my brand new intel chip blah etc iMac unfortunately. Bought it and then didn't open it till last week -- not compatible with any of the other macs I have.
Too late to swap back. Help people says there's no plug to switch SATAII (whoever that is) to USB. Think that is reflected in the price.
So buyer beware!
