I went to do a backup and when I plugged it in it made a clicking noise and is not reconised by the computer.
It spent its life travelling between desk draw and desktop PC about once a week for backups, so not a stressful life.
Not good.

Great product which installed quickly and simply. Runs very quietly. Only slight beef is that the default file system is FAT32, which has a 4GB file size limit. If you are using this device to run back ups using (for instance) Microsoft XP Backup, the file generated will quickly exceed this limit. This means you need to convert the drive to the NTFS file system, which requires a little IT knowledge.

I bought this drive to back up the contents of the hard drive on my Playstation 3. I have found the drive to be very quiet in operation and having used it for a few weeks now have found it to be 100% reliable. Great product, great design and does exactly what it says on the tin. Nice one WD!

Received the drive in a large box, only to discover it is smaller than a postcard, weighs about the same too. Worked straight away and was saving files to it within about 20 seconds of plugging it in. As fast as I expected. No slower than my other, Maxtor, mains-powered external drive.
Comes with lots of Google software I didn't want, so didn't install it. Also lots of WD sync software I also don't want to use at the moment, but could be useful, especially if I was using Outlook or work files with multiple computers. I bought it as a backup drive and somewhere to store my iTunes music.
Only minor complaint, not enough to drop a star though. It comes with the smallest USB lead either myself or my colleagues have ever seen. If you take the plugs off the end then the span of my right hand is actually wider than the length of the lead. Not a problem for me since I had a spare A to B USB lead anyway.
It's a drive, it has 60Gb of storage, it doesn't need power.
What more do you want...

I have NEVER written a review at amazon. but trust me this is worth my time. I can't believe Western Digital is available to buy in almost all the top stores, besty buy, circuit city etc. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE EVER CREATED!!! BEWARE!!!!
1) YOU CANNOT COPY YOUR FILES TO YOUR PC ONCE THE ARE ON THE HARDDRIVE! ALWAYS MALFUNCTIONS!!!
2) WHEN COPYING FILES FROM YOUR PC TO THE WD PASSPORT-FILES WILL ALWAYS, YES ALWAYS, BECOME MISSING OR LOST!! i.e. if you copy 10 mp3 files it will only copy 8 or 9.
this became a huge problem for me when copying my library.
3) WHEN TRYING TO COPY FILES FROM PASSPORT TO PC, YOU MUST COPY ALL OF THEM, YOU CANNOT SELECT JUST ONE OR TWO. WHEN YOU DO, THE TRANSFERS ALWAYS FAIL...NO MATTER BECAUSE IT WILL THEN MAKE YOU COPY THE WHOLE DRIVE AND IT WILL FAIL.
4) TECH SUPPORT COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX MY PROBLEMS AND TOLD ME THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK AND NEVER DID!!! BEWARE...
I have my degree in C++ programming and know my way around computers VERY well. This isn't a case of someone not knowing how to do something. TRUST ME, DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. I went and purchased a Seagate today and it worked flawlessly.
Listen up, I am saying all of this because I am furious! I had 70 gigs worth of stuff on my 80gb passport and now i cant do anything with it..
WORST PURCHASE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!
