Arrived in super fast time, plugged it in and away i went. Very easy to set up, didn't load software from the disc but did from the drive itself which then automatically updated when i went online.
I need it for backing up files - music, photos, etc. It appears to do the job well and it's small/quiet. No complaints so far. If you want something to back up your files once in a while then i guess this can be recomended.

I use this small, light, neat little portable disk for simple backups using Allway Sync primarily, and to copy more personal data to the drive's secure area. For that, it's absolutely fine. Not the fastest thing you'll ever see, particularly with Vista's shabby and badly tested file copying operations contributing to proceedings, but if your requirement is simple it will do an excellent job.
I've not used any of the other software that came with it, or tried full disk image backups, so I can't comment on that.
Cheap (very cheap) and cheerful, but solidly made, it's got a big disk for the money and it's giving me easy off-site backups with minimal fuss.
Just fine.

It looks to me like this product is being marketed as a backup/recover type package, as the pre-installed software on the device and the included CD focus on this capability. Other reviews indicate that this functionality might not be perfect.
However if you, like me, want a fairly priced, simple plug'n'play portable hard drive to house your media libraries then this is a fine choice. It worked immediately on my Dell laptop and I was copying files within minutes.

This is a fantasically handy little item which could save you time and money. The Maxtor software is what makes it stand out - the OneTouch backup does exactly what it says on the tin. Simply select which folders you want to be part of the backup process, then you can either schedule frequent backups or do them at your own leisure by pressing the button on the drive. Perfect.
However, the SafetyDrill software is not so perfect. This is a small Linux coded program which comes on an included CD. After you make the image of your computer (which works fine), the idea is to boot off this CD and rebuild your machine from an image you have made. Sounds great, but in practice the software is extremely buggy and, often, doesn't work full stop.
We bought one of these to use within a business environment and so far we have noticed that the SafetyDrill feature flat out does not work with certain models of Dell computers. The USB device simply will not be recognised by the software, no matter what we tried. Other times it will fall over during the initial loading phase. I also found the "support" staff at Maxtor/Seagate less than helpful. They told me they didn't really know much about this product as it was fairly new. Thanks a lot.
My advice - if you plan to use this purely for backup purposes, this device is great. If you intend to make use of the recovery feature, give it a miss unless Maxtor/Seagate release an improved version of the software (yeah right).
