 6 Weeks in going strong September 4, 2008
Purchased 6 weeks ago to backup up movies and files from my PC ,works quickly and smoothly with absolutely no problems virtually silent too!
Sleeps when my PC sleeps and wakes together so I cannot fault at the moment.
 Lasted less than three months September 1, 2008
I bought this product roughly six months ago so i could store all my dvds after i'd burnt them onto my laptop as i only have 120GB of space on it. When it arrived i plugged it in and it took a few seconds to reconise it and then didn't take long to install the software that was on it already. So far so good. I transfered all the movies onto it through the software i had installed and it took 2 hours for about 40GB of data. I then didn't need to use it for a while. The need time i used it it kept turning off and i found the power cable didn't fit into the socket very well so i took to holding it in until all the files were copied. Then that would't even work and i had to twist the power cable around the unit. Then that didn't work. I tried another power cable and it still wouldn't go. So my friends whos good with computers said he's open it up and put the hard drive into his computer to get the data off and then i could send it back to seagate. When he did that the drive was completly dead. So overall my experiance with this har drive hasn't been very good and i've lost about 300 GB of data overall.
I would say its not worth the effort or money.

Plug and play device at a very good price.
Compare the price you would have to pay for an 8G Memory stick and then work out how much extra storage capacity the seagate drive has.....there is no doubts in my mind which would be the right direction to head in when making the choices.
When it comes to any kind of important files always follow my lead. Back up to disc....Back up to Pen drives........Back up to the old spare computer..........Yes back up on the Seagate Freeagent drive as well...... Share all your photos on disc with your families.........Dont rely on any one single form of back up .
This Seagate drive has given me no problems.....YET! Unlike other people who have reviewed it .
So for now I give it a thumbs up.
 Good Drive but very poor disk controller August 19, 2008
I kept getting multiple problems with sections of files (.avi) missing when copied to this drive. Very strange I thought as the disk is a highly reliable one from the "Barracuda" series.
Conclusion is that the disk controller is not man enough for the job.
Opened the case, removed the drive (it's a standard sata type), installed it in my pc and it's working perfectly.
My advice is to buy an sata drive and install it in an ici-box or similar if you want an external hard drive.
Bad bad seagate drives August 9, 2008
I had a 500Gb and a 750Gb Seagate FreeAgent drive. They were both full and then crashed within a month of each other. Seagate will replace the drive, but i loose all the data on them. I will never buy a Seagate product again. I will try anything else, but never this product again.
