I bought the camera mainly because of its waterproof feature as I was going to be doing a lot of snorkeling on holiday.
I took some amazing underwater photos and was truly impressed until day 12 of the holiday when it stopped working. An error message reported that the card slot cover wasn't closed properly, when it was most definitely was. After a few hours of this it completely died which was really annoying.
I did a bit of research when we got home and it appears that a few of the Olympus models have this problem - something to do with the cover sensors.
Knowing this I opted for a refund rather than a replacement - which is another good reason to buy from Amazon :)

The 2GB card I have allowed 18mins of continuous video. I was diving around 7 meters with no problems, the camera claims to go as deep as 10. The underwater photos the camera takes are also superb. There is no commentary on the video, let the footage speak for itself.

superb,i owned the 770 but now upgraded to this-olympus have listened to feedback and come up up with a superb product, easy to use, first rate quality pictures and you can take it anywhere, I HAVE. Its been rained on, dropped,immersed for hours in icelandic mineral filled thermal springs, in saunas, jacuzzi, beach -sand-sea-and more normal situations. well done olympus. Any doubters- The thing to remember is this, this little camera is built for purpose and it delivers.

I recently purchased this Olympus on the recommendation of a work colleague, but was slightly hesitant due to some of the reviews on flooding.
We have just returned from 2 weeks holiday where it was used whilst snorkelling for in excess of 20 hours in total and it retained its water integrity.
We were always very careful to ensure that the seals were completely clear of hair etc and after each trip followed the cleaning instructions on using clear water etc. I can see how the waterproof integrity would be compromised if you had a cavalier attitude to its maintenance.
Pictures and quality were excellent for a camera of this class both above and below water, low light shooting options actually worked remarkably well as well.
Overall this proved to be an excellent waterproof camera, which also turned out to be a very capable holiday camera, if maintained with a little common sense.

I'm not a professional, I'm very much a casual 'point and click' photographer, I just want something that takes the best possible quality photos with the minimum of effort. And I have to say this camera ticks all the boxes.
It has a huge feature-set and can take photos in almost any kind of environment. You can override all the automatic settings and fine tune things manually if you want that perfect photo, but to be honest I just keep everything on automatic and the photos are excellent. One issue that worried me about using a 10.1MP camera is the delay between photos because all of the extra processing the camera had to do due to the higher pixels, this was a problem that afflicted my previous digital camera. But my concerns were misplaced, the camera is very fast, enabling photos to be taken in quick succession with the minimum of delays.
For a 10.1MP camera I expected slightly better quality photos. Make no mistake the camera takes excellent photos, but I sometimes find, for a 10.1MP camera, the photos sometimes lack a little bit of sharpness and I can't help thinking Olympus have made some compromises here. I also would have liked a viewfinder, the LCD screen is excellent but, for a camera of this price, omitting a viewfinder is a bit mean of Olympus.
The silver finish of the camera looks fantastic, from a purely aesthetic point of view this is a very good looking camera. But this also means the camera, though shock proof, is susceptible to scratches. It's also re-assuring to know getting the camera won't get damaged if it gets wet thanks to the water proofing, but I certainly wouldn't risk taking a camera of this price underwater, despite Olympus's claims.
Overall, if you're a casual snapper looking for a good quality, all-round camera, then you can't go wrong with the Olympus 1030SW.
