Does what it says on the tin. September 25, 2008 Spud (Scotland) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this 2 months ago to use as an additional backup of music, photos and data from my laptop. I'm using XP Home and reformatted the drive for NTFS with no problems. Overall the drive is quick enough, is quiet and the lack of an additional power lead is great when you actually are mobile (away from a mains socket). So far so good and overall, good value for money.
Will this work for my needs? September 11, 2008 C. Cook (Where in the world am I? HEAVEN!) 3 out of 27 found this review helpful
OK so I'm not really a computer whizz, but here goes. My PC is ridiculously slow at the moment due to the amount of files I have stored on it (mainly music in the form of iTunes and photos). I am thinking about buying this hard-drive to put all of my music and photos on so as to speed up my computer. How easy will it be to transfer my files? I can't see it really being a problem with all my photos however I'm not entirely sure how easy it will be with my music. Will iTunes songs transfer easily and if so, will they show up in iTunes once I have deleted the original copies from my computer (to give it running space). I'm also considering buying an Apple laptop for my gap-year and university next year as I would like to benefit from Apple's design software. Would it perhaps be better to simply buy a laptop and transfer all my music onto that, something I imagine I will do eventually?
Smart, quiet and very fast hard drive August 31, 2008 NK (Lancs. UK) 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
I wanted a portable hard drive with reasonable capacity as I generate a lot of huge files from movie recording. Having bought a freecom hard drive many years ago that worked brilliantly (it only let me down after I clumsily dropped it down the stairs) and seeing so many positive reviews, I went for this 160GB Freecom drive. The verdict? This is a fast hard drive with 1GB files quietly copied across in about 60 to 80 seconds. The unit works without a lumbersome power cable (power comes from the PC via the USB cable) which is a major, major plus. There is a Freecom software CD supplied but you don't need it as the drive is instantly recognized by XP and Vista computers. It's also really light and compact, about the size of one's hand. In fact, to be more precise, it is rather like a Casio fx82 calculator - if you are old enough to remember one! It fits nicely into any jacket pocket, which means it's truly mobile. I am very happy with my choice and recommend it strongly. I just hope I never drop this one!
Freecom Mobile August 8, 2008 Mr. G. Boow (Runcorn, Cheshire.) 20 out of 24 found this review helpful
Bought this from Amazon 3 weeks ago, found it easy to use, it's neat and small but would not work on other computers except those with Vista Home Premium, I contacted Freecom by email and found them very helpful and responsive, they said the problem would be solved by powering the Freecom with a mains lead and promptly sent me one free of charge, unfortunately this did not cure the problem so I can't upload anything on to other computers that don't have Vista Home Premium so I just use it as a back up for my files.
Great for a laptop August 2, 2008 Sarah A (London) 33 out of 35 found this review helpful
I bought this as i have a small amount of memory on my laptop and needed a boost of space fast as i was running out and slowing down. I didnt want to spend to much money and didnt need anything bigger than about 150GB. My windows XP recognised it instanty and i was trasfering music and video files within seconds. Its quiet and simple looking, so sits well on the desk next to the other USB things i have hanging about.
