Good machine, good value December 1, 2008 PLSavage (Cambs) I bought this to transfer my old videos onto DVD, and this has been very easy to do. Having done so I now find that this is a very easy and effective machine. Using DVD RAM's, picture quality at 4hr settings is very good (although perhaps not quite as good as my Humax PVR). For 125 though, I really can't fault it. The only thing is that it doesn't have twin tuners, so anyone coming from a typical VCR needs to note that you won't be able to record one thing and watch another, if this is the only box you have. You will need a TV with built-in Freeview, or a separate box, or PVR etc. Not a problem for me, but another technophobe (like me) might get caught out...!
third time lucky? November 1, 2008 R. MOOR 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I wonder why after buying 2 panasonic dvd recorders keith joseph bought a third after they both packed in. I own a previous model the panasonic dmr-ez25 and whilst picture quality and recording are good from time to time and without warning the freeview tuner just cuts out and the whole unit freezes and has to be turned off. I did send it back under warranty but the same problems resurfaced immediately. I have now had the unit 18 months and its fine when working but every few days the screen turns green and it freezes up. Also although really easy to use and set up the EPG was designed by somebody who just couldn't be bothered (or some primary school children) unlike the Sony and Samsung units I have seen which are well designed and look great.
Good with reservations October 22, 2008 Peter Hodge (UK) 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
I'm surpried everyone has raved about it as it does have major, major faults. Picture, sound & set-up excellant and I have no complaints. It's major drawback is total lack of attention to detail. The "Guide" is very badly layed out with far too may choices on the page and the highlighting is very poor. Far too may buttons on the remote control. Deleting recordings is far too long a processes. A major flaw is there is no "go to" function. So if I want to go to chapter 16 or 1 hour 45 in then I have to press the skip button hundreds of time to get there. The "skip" can be programmed but then I have to reprogramme it for when I want to skip 1 minute. It does not record chapters every 5 minutes as other machines do as it records. It cannot playback mpegs recorded on my computer. I have to convert them to DVD files which takes 45 mins per hour. There is no eject button on the remote. When doing a timer record there is no obvious sign that it has turned itself on. There is a red light but from the other side of the room this is not clear. There is no "power on" light. So overall it does nice recordings, plays back in good quality on any brand of disc I give it. It's just the lack of the most basic functions that annoy me.

I've had this dvd recorder for 4 weeks now, and find it to be perfect, the freeview t.v. programmer is fast and so so easy to use, i.e. for recording. I had two phillips recorders befor and sent them back as they were rubbish, well done Panasonic for a first class recorder, I've also bought DVD RAM disc's they make a big difference as with these disc's the recorder uses all the available space on the disc, whereas on normal disc's i.e. dvd-/+rw's, only use the space thats left after your last recording, I highly recommend both the recorder and panasonics ram disc's.
Simplicity, style, brilliance, and performance! September 11, 2008 Kevin Fenton (Manchester UK) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
This item is excellent! From unbelievably easy set up to recording accurately in less than 5 minutes! Excellent interface, guide, intuitive control, superb picture performance and stylish slim design! DVD RAM recording allows chase play (watch whilst still recording a programme, or watch one recording whilst recording another! Sound too is excellent via optical digital out, and upscaled picture performance via HDMI is really very good indeed at this price point. This machine replaces an ageing Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMR ES520 with Freeview but no HDMI or Upscaling), and it clearly is a vast improvement on that good machine in almost every area. It serves as an extremely worthy extra digital recording option above Sky HD (my main system), and I can now record 3 digital programmes simultaneosuly! Will I ever get up off the sofa? It responds much quicker too, so a faster processor is in evidence, which enhances and smooths the process of setting timers, playback etc. DVD + or - recordings are easily 'finalised' for playback on other DVD's so no compatibility problems (other than with DVD RAM which is Panasonic specific and best used therefore for daily not to be archived recordings along with it's ease of use and facilities which are similar to Sky Plus) Highly recommended! Panasonic deliver, and Amazon excel again in terms of price, delivery and customer service. You simply can't go wrong with this machine, and this supplier!
