great when it works June 29, 2008 Was bought for me Christmas 2006, all went well untill July o8.Would not turn off even when trying to reset unit. Next morning totally dead , would not even charge or be recognised by my pc.This nano has never been away from my workout station, never dropped or missused, so why???????? Have to go for another, trying for Nano 3rd gen, as I have only just bought expensive dock, hope i have more luck this time. I would recommend 100% if it had been more reliable.
a beginner to this stuff lol September 28, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
finally deciding after being afraid of joining 'the club' that it was about time to get myself one of these i did. I'm glad too. It's so easy to use, stores tons of your favourite music and, is small and handy enough to pop into your bag, or wherever you want. Great!
Better sound than a shuffle September 3, 2007 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
Well whilst the Sony is being repaired, we've got one of these things.
Plus points. Using the thing is more intuitive and unlike a shuffle I can select music by genre, album etc.
On the other hand, I am now on the road to hating itunes. For reasons I've yet to work out, unlike the Shuffle, I cannot add to the existing tracks on the Nano with clearing everything else off. The sound is better than that of the Shuffle, but worse than that of the Sony and the headphones are abysmal.
I like the longer battery life (around 24 hours) but am still to meet THE mp3 player that makes me want to burn all my CD's on to the computer and use that as my source of music.
I found it quite annoying August 31, 2007 7 out of 17 found this review helpful
When I first got an iPod from my brother as a birthday present, I was really excited about the prospect of having all that music wherever I go. But as time went on, I learnt that you simply had to be a geek to use the dambed thing. The speakers [which they claim are `top of the range`] were crackling and distorting after a while, and even after I switched them for a new set they were STILL distorting. I wanted to buy some iTunes, but when I found out the cost, I wasn`t so keen, and I thought I`d better stick to CDs which have cheaper songs [most of the time]. Then I discovered a way in which i could really use the iPod, and which saved it from a 1 star rating: you buy rip-off cables from PC world, hook them up to your sterio, attach the iPod onto the othere end and bob`s your unkle: you have 500 songs playing randomly out of loud speakers; great right? Wrong. at first it was fun, but then once I got bored of the songs on it i started putting CDs in because I just couldn`t face the strain of putting new songs on it, or paying for them. Science then it has come to be a piece of living, working modern history, waiting for my boffin years. If I were you, I`d save up to buy something more useful, like a chinese hymn book.
Cynical ipod user August 20, 2007 19 out of 30 found this review helpful
Look, ipods are good mp3 players (I say MP3 even though they use the aac format). They store vast amounts of music and other media. The headphones are diabolically bad and uncomfortable in the extremes, but we expect these things and accept we will have to buy our own. But there is one cynical thing that apple does, that makes them a truly reprehensible. You see, dear reader, most users will fall into the trap of using i-tunes for their music download needs, after all it is convenient. I-tunes, per se, is not that good. They have a lot of material missing from their archives (for example 2pac changes, a highly popular song), but it is not this which causes me outrage. You see, if you do opt for i-tunes, you are essentially tied to ipods for the rest of your life. Let me explain. They come in the aac format, which is only used by ipods, not any other mp3 players. This means, in turn, that the majority of your music collection will be in this format. This means that you cannot ever buy any other mp3 player because you will not be able to convert your music to mp3 (aac will not convert to mp3). In this way ipod have shot themselves in the foot, because there is a growing awareness of this underhand tactic. Buy an ipod, sure, but whatever you do, don't use i-tunes, and don't become reliant on it. I have, and now I cannot buy the creative zen I wanted because i can't play my library of music.
