I already owned a 3G Nano and when I watched the keynote from Steve Jobs for the new nano I thought "So what?..." I mean on the face of it the new nano doesn't really do anything differently apart from cover flow. Then 2 things changed my mind. First memory, 16Gb in fact, one of the most frustrating things for me was that I would watch movies when traveling and a movie takes up about 1Gb so throw a couple of movies on and very soon memory becomes an issue. I still haven't managed to fill my new 16Gb nano and right now there are 3 movies, numerous podcasts both video and audio and lots and lots of music.
The second thing was the Genius button. I started using this on the iTunes update and loved it as I kept finding songs I didn't know I owned or had forgotten. The new nano has an inbuilt Genius feature which means you can choose a song and hit Genius and it creates a playlist from songs on your nano that gel with the track.
There were still some things that put me off. One was the curved body and in particular the curved screen. I thought "Its going to reflect light and really annoy me". So far it hasn't and my nano has had some hard use since I got it as I have been traveling around Europe every week for the past 6 weeks. I have watched movies, played games, watched podcasts and it hasn't been a problem. Also on the body as it is anodised aluminium I have found it very tactile to hold and you don't have to worry about scratching the back as you did with the shiny old one.
All in I am very impressed. It isn't a huge leap forwards and if I hadn't wanted the extra memory I would probably have waited but I am thoroughly enjoying my new nano and would recommend it. The only thing I would say is that battery life definitely isn't as good as the old one. I would say about 20% more energy consumption based on average use. I used to be able to travel for 3 days and not worry about the battery running flat and that isn't true with the new nano.
