2 out of 5 stars Looks can be so deceiving   June 4, 2007

I bought the White 30Gb video iPod a the xmas before last, and at first I was so happy with it. It looked great, sounded great, and seemed the best.
After a month or so, It started playing up. The battery is a disgrace to be honest, one second it says it's on it's last limb, next thing I have 3/4 full battery. I charge it over night, and its 1/2 charged. The iPod is a joke, it's more of a fashion statment then a mp3 player.
I brought it back, and the shop gave me another one, now a few months ago, the iPod regulary cleared, literally everything, I did not restart it, also my computer isn't great, so I can't have thousands of music on my computer, I was left with nothing. It kept doing this, till one day last month, it just refuses to acknowledge a connection to the computer, I try pressing all the buttons, restarting etc and it won't work at all. Only works when I plug into the mains charger, then soon as I unplug it, it cuts out and the screen fades away.

Please, trust me, do not buy this product, complete waste of time. My Creative Zen Vison M 30Gb should be at my house tommorow ordered from Amazon too.

iPod's are made to brake, trust me, do not buy. I don't know one person yet who have owned it for over a year, and says there hasn't been alot of problems.

4 out of 5 stars Good on the whole, but still some niggles.   December 20, 2006

I've had my ipod for about five months now. I do really like it, but I've got a few niggles with it and with iTunes.
It probably won't affect that many people, but I think Apple really need to pick up on the fact that some people now have more than one computer. i.e a desktop and a laptop. I use my work machine for iTunes and have my laptop for home and out and about use, but because iTunes won't allow me to use two machines, I can only have access to iTunes on weekdays which is quite frustrating as my lunch hour doesn't extend long enough to even update the ipod nevermind actually browse iTunes or make playlists etc! iTunes also REALLY slows down my computer. Its not a slow or old computer, it has 2GB of memory and a P4 in it, so its not as though the machine is a rubbish.
My niggle with the actual iPod is mainly the exterior; it's virtually impossible to even take it out of it's box without scratching it or marking it in some way and I was VERY careful. The iPod is VERY aesthetically pleasing, but as soon as you touch it, it loses all its appeal because you'll have fingermarks, scratches and general grubiness as soon as you touch it.
I'd highly recommend to anyone thinking of buying this that they buy a case at the same time as it'll be scratched straightaway otherwise.
The sound quality is excellent, and the iPod is easy to use, and iTunes even has its perks in this way as it's straightforward to use.
The iPod has its problems, but I've got to say it's FAR beter than anything else out there.
My sister just bought a new 4gb nano, and after playing around with that for a while, I'd recommend anyone who doesn't need the 30GB space, to go for one of those instead, mainly because of the scratch factor.

4 out of 5 stars Great, but scratches very easily.   October 22, 2006

I've had my iPod video for quite a while now and i am extremely pleased with it, the sound is fantastic and the video quality is supereb even though the battery only lasts 2 hours while watching a video file from fully charged. Pictures come out amazing too. I've noticed that one person below commented that you have to convert all video files on an iTune formay and this can only be done via Quicktime Pro. This is untrue I use a free programme called Jodix, which is avaliable on the net and it is fantastic and works perfectly I haven't had a single problem with it and it is very easy to use. All you need to do is tight click the converted file and select play with...itunes. Anyway my iPod is very good, but i do suggest you buy a case for it straight away, i didn't and got 2 major scratched which has permantly damaged the screen [...] But apart from the few down-sides this is a fantastic piece of kit and i will recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good mp4 player, however buy a case!

3 out of 5 stars Fine Print   October 9, 2006

I bought my iPod to listen to music while sitting through the long hours in work - and for this it works great. But then I went travelling, and I had problems.

It probably won't affect many people, but in the apple small print it says that it has a maximum operating altitude of 3000m. So in Tibet and Bolivia it wouldn't work, and I was without music for months. I think something pops in it at high altitude, and I didn't know how to fix it until I got to an Apple store in Australia. The screen also gets scratched pretty easily, and iTunes is designed so that you can only have one iPod on one PC, so you can't add music to it while travelling, and if you try to add music you'll loose what you already have.

So if you are looking for an MP3 player to keep you cozy on those long bus journeys get something else. My friend's Sony Walkman worked fine no matter what the altitude we went to, and it seems a bit more durable.

On the other hand, being able to watch videos is fantastic, and the music sounds great.
