2 out of 5 stars Thanks a bunch Apple   April 7, 2007

I was delighted with my tiny shuffle when I first got it. It's incredibly small, light and stylish - and the lanyard made it perfect for wearing to the gym (my other mp3 player is a 15GB Philips - which is a bit cumbersome for the gym).
I was quite pleased to be buying into the iPod phenomenon as well, after all in 50 years time you'll want to say you had an iPod when they were just starting out.
The player worked well for the first 8 months and I used it a lot, it even replaced my Philips as my primary mp3 player - favouring portability over capacity.
However, 8 months after receiving my Shuffle it has ceased to function, in much the same way as is described all over the Internet. The unit refuses to do anything except flash green and orange lights and cannot be accessed via my computer. I phoned up the Apple helpline - only to find myself through to an Indian call centre where I can't understand what the hell anybody is saying. You wonder how much the people in the call centre really care about some guy's iPod not working 4000 miles away.
Apple duly offered to replace my Shuffle - but what's the point? Everyone I know who's had a shuffle has had the same problems as me so any replacement would only break as well, leaving me having spent 100 and still being without a functioning mp3 player. I've told them I don't want a replacement and I want my money back.
I find it incredible in this day and age that a company as massive as Apple can manufacture such a shoddy product and remain so nonchalant about the fact every single one of them will cease to function sooner or later. I'm now boycotting Apple products and intend to take my custom elsewhere for my replacement mp3 player...any suggestions anyone?

4 out of 5 stars Best small MP3/ IPOD out!   February 21, 2007

This is a fantastic little piece of equipment. It is small enough to fit in literaly any pocket and you can store many songs onit. I have managed to store over the maximum amount that it says and so far it has been fine.

Since buying it i have found three very minor problems:

When it is in your pocket, if it rubs with something (eg. mobile, coins) it can turn a little grey in areas, however in most instances it can be wiped away and be restored to it's original colour.

Generally, i use a docking station to charge it up. On occasions it doesn't charge overnight, infact it says empy battery. I am not sure whether that is the docking station or the Ipod, but it has happened a few times.

My last problem is that i think i would prefer an MP3 with a screen. It is not too much of a problem for me because i know most of my songs but it may be a little easier if i had one.

Finally i must stress that you need to be carefull with the port of the earphones provided with the shuffle as the can brake.

Overall a very good MP3 player, not a huge memory but enough memory if you don't have a screen. 9/10

The good:
-very small and light, easy to slip into your pocket. Or use the lanyard to hang around your neck.

-As it is an i-pod it is obviously compatible with i-tunes an excellent music download site.

-comes with those white i-pod earbuds everyone seems to want.

The bad:
-This problem is not restricted to the shuffle, all i-pods can only be charged via USB cable ( unless your willing to pay 20+ for the privelage of a wall socket charger)

-No screen, this makes the ipod-shuffle look quite good. But once the novelty wears off, this is actually quite annoying.

-I as many other people have had problems such as the shuffle not being recognised by your computer. Or it simply refuses to play songs even though it is fully charged. This fortunately can be rectified more often than not by the "5R's". But still annoying to do.

Over all I would say buy the nano, save up an extra 30- 35 and you can then get the 1gb nano. Which is nearly as small and as light as a shuffle(with the bonus of the screen). Also if it is the "shuffle" mode you are after then all i-pods come with this. And most other mp3 players for that matter.

The main selling point of an i-pod shuffle, if you want one. Is i-tunes, which you can only use with ipods because of the protected aac format. In this sense the shuffle is a cheap mp3 player, that you can store your i-tunes on. And the fact that you use i-tunes with the shuffle is why i gave it 4, not 3 stars.

5 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Product   August 21, 2006

I cannot believe so many people are rubbishing the iPod Shuffle. I must be very lucky as i've never had a problem with mine and it has been squashed in rucksacs and jammed into pockets. I think it is just brilliant and great fun to use.
So light that it sits very comfortably into a shirt pocket, you can take it anywhere. I don't listen to it for hours on end so for me the battery seems to last weeks. I love the fact that you never know what track is coming next. If you don't like this and need a screen, buy one with a screen!
I would and have recommended my friends to buy the iPod shuffle.
