Good Value MP3 Player October 1, 2008 BigBoy (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a really small, light MP3 player which comes with decent quality Sony headphones, a USB cable adaptor for downloading music or photos (this cable also acts as its charger while plugged into a PC/laptop), plus a CD-ROM containing an MP3 conversion tool and Windows Media Player 11 which will need to be installed. The Sony Walkman Media Manager will also need to be downloaded from the Sony website. The software requires Windows XP SP2 or later. The Sony NWZ-S618F theoretically has 8GB of memory, though in practice it seems only to have nearer 7GB. When connected to my PC I am instructed that mine has a 7.3GB memory. In terms of using it, the NWZ-S618F and its software are certainly user friendly. It does however take a short time to get used to what information the NWZ-S618F uses when categorising artists, songs and albums. For example, if the "contributing artist" on an album is the same for some tracks but not others, the NWZ-S618F will scatter the individual tracks around all over the place into different files like shrapnel, according to the name of the contributing artist, irrespective of the fact that the tracks are all from the same album. Sound quality is good but not outstanding (128-bit). The warmth and emotion of the music can certainly be significantly enhanced by customising the equalisation, which is easily done. Headphones are fine, though the headphone cable is a tad on the short side if you intend placing the NWZ-S618F in a trouser pocket. Basically a worthy and good value MP3 player.
Excellent mp3 player!! August 6, 2008 Ms. S. Orchard (England) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Did a lot of research on mp3 players. Bought the creative Zen to begin with but kept crashing. Got the sony and I couldnt believe the difference. Excellent sound. So easy to use ( using windows media player or windows explorer). would recomend this product to anyone loking for a good value for money mp3 player.
Best ever MP3 player - ditch your IPOD!! July 7, 2008 Martin Belcher (Hampshire, United Kingdom) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I must admit to never owning an IPOD, i've always stuck to small storage MP3 players, my previous player only had 1GB storage and I was getting fed up with continually deleting tracks to make room for new music. I've been put off purchasing an IPOD as I think there over rated and I don't like having to use Apples own software for transferring music. I saw this player advertised in Argos for 59.99 and went for it after reading the great reviews. Its only my second day using it and i'm completely over the moon with it! The sound quality is second to none, there are lots of Graphic Equalizer settings and surround sound/ Xtra Bass too. Copying music over is just a breeze using either simple "drag & Drop" with Windows explorer or you can use Windows Media Player, it comes complete with a disc with Media Player 11 on it which is recommended as previous versions don't work as well. I prefer to use drag & drop, so easy your granny could do it!! So far I have copied across most of my music and I have barely used 4GB, so I have almost another 4GB to use. On top of this you can view MP4 video and JPEG photos on the small but very versatile screen. Its just brilliant!!
THE best MP3 player - forget Ipod !! July 6, 2008 L. A. Porter (UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I was looking for an mp3 player with the intelligent menu functions and storage offered by the Ipods, but with a few extra features such as radio. I also didnt want to be locked into I-Tunes. I found all I could ever want in my sony mp3 player. I love it !! My friends who have ipods are now jealous and thinking of ditching their ipods for a sony. It is so easy to use without even reading the manual. Colours and icons are crisp and clear, sound quality is excellent, simply synch using windows media player, or drag and drop using windows explorer. It is really small and slim too - smaller than a credit card and about 4 x the thickness. Shame it doesnt come with a cover and strap - can be bought seperately as accessories. I wasnt bothered by the lack of separate charger as I have loads already, and this charges fully from empty within 3 hours plugged into the laptop usb (the cable is included in the box). You wont regret buying this mp3 player
Bin your ipod - Sony's the way forward!!!! June 19, 2008 Tinkerbell 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
I wasn't looking for anything flash - just a straightforward mp3 player with an FM radio, good sound quality and plenty of memory for my cd collection, but I've found that models with loads of memory tend to be of a high spec with video playback, bluetooth etc. which I'll never use. I also wanted an mp3 player that could be charged at the mains as well as via a USB so if I didn't have access to a pc and the battery was low, I could still get to charge it. I spent ages comparing different brands, models and prices and I found that mp3 players with radios are few and far between and there don't appear to be any mp3 players in the market with tonnes of memory specifically for music and radio so maybe that's something that manufacturers can take into consideration when designing future models for customers not wanting all singing, all dancing players! The Sony NWZ-S618FBLK more than meets my requirements. Although I won't use the video playback feature, there is a sample video included and the picture is so crisp - very impressive! The sound quality is excellent and you have the option of choosing your own settings which is very useful. Downloading music couldn't be easier. (Even my computer illerate parents can do it!!) You simply drag and drop using Windows Explorer or syncronize the device with Windows Media Player. The only disappointing aspect is that you have to buy a mains adapter separately for 20 (Boo!) I've been recommending this mp3 player to anyone who'll listen. I love it!!!!
