 Worst Product Ever - Such a Rip Off December 4, 2008

I sincerely regret spending so much on this sorry excuse for an mp3 player - it freezes all the time, won't turn on, has lost all the songs on it, won't charge, and now is completely dead - and I've had it less than a year. It just freezes on the Creative logo and you can't get anywhere from there. I spoke to the Creative people, and they very helpfully suggested that I buy a new one! A good way of judging a product, I've discovered, is to look on their website under trouble shooting or common issues - Frozen, Unresponsive and Dead are the terms at the top of the list for this player! The accompanying software/media player that I installed on my computer lost all the songs in it one day - that's almost 4000 songs - and caused me no end of computer problems, it's like a virus. It wasn't recognised by the computer half the time, I had so many connectivity problems with it. And the player never would display photos. When it did decide to play music, it would often skip, despite being held still. Absolute rubbish, NEVER buy anything made by Creative! I've got one of those really cheap ones now (less than a tenner), a brand you've never heard of, and I have no problems at all.

I've had mine for about 18 months now, and have put it through vigorus use, and yesterday it finaly gave up the go. overall i think that this is a very good player, that is easy to use (once you work out how to use the touch pads) that has easy to use software, that was easy to install (even on my rubbish comp, that doesn't like any thing new).
However i did have a few minor problems, i found that it was very slow to load and that every so often (about once a month)i had to reboot the library (which took forever). I also found that the headphone wire broke very easily and have had to replace them twice, but don't let this stop buying them because this is still a top notch player that is great to use.

I like the look of the player. I've managed to train myself to use the touch controls. I even like it's simplicity. But myself and others have had problems with Creative's product line when it comes to compatability with XP. It ends up being more trouble than it's worth. So in future I'm going to steer clear of Creative's line of products. It seems to vary wildly with some people having a very good experience with these products and others having nothing but problems. The bottom line is, they aren't reliable enough to invest in one.

My Zen Microphoto froze up and no longer works just two months out of the warranty period. Neither Amazon or Creative will replace (even though Amazon as the retailer has a duty of care under the sale of goods act and we suggested that under this act it is reasonable to expect that an MP3 should last longer than 14months therefore Amazon have a responsibilty to replace free of charge- Amazon refered us to Creative and Creative would not replace). I did a search on Creative's own discussion boards and there were around 4,500 different threads about Zen's freezing! I have written to watchdog and trading standards about this.
I would advise anyone to steer clear of this item.

I bought two Zen Micros about 3 years ago for my sons. Both machines suffered from bad headphone connections. Creative did replace both items twice but at the end of the day the products had a big design fault. I bought my son a Zen Microphoto 10 months ago thinking that things would get better. The good news is that the headphone fault has been cured but the bad news is that I am now sending the device back for a second time in six months! The device stops working and freezes on the first display screen. Creative are pretty good at replacing their items but this is only what you would expect from a firm that sells dodgy hardware. I'm only giving this piece of junk two stars on the basis of its price and functionality. If you want to pay c 120 for a MP3 that will last 6 months then I would recommend the Zen.
