Chunky, heavy, well built, can't update for Vista! August 15, 2007 Jacko (Everywhere) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought my Zen about 15 months ago. No real problems with it although I mainly use it down the gym - not ideal as its to big and bulky! My laptop packed up in Feb 07 so I had to purchase a new one. Thought I would go with Windows Vista as I wanted it to be upto date. However my Zen will not run on Vista. After much searching on the internet I sent multiple emails to Creative and their only response was to advise that they were not developing software for my player to work on Vista, their solution was for me to install XP instead - yes, great idea why don't I go backwards. I emailed them again and told them that their response certainly did not resolve the issue and that they had lost a customer and I will never buy another creative product again! I have informed many friends of this aswell so hopefully they will steer clear of Creative aswell. A friend had already suggested I buy an Ipod and now I wish I had done. ZERO OUT OF 5 FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE CREATIVE!!!!!!
Here is a quick straight forward review about the zen micro May 30, 2007 I. Hussen 0 out of 7 found this review helpful
i brought the item two weeks ago from creative store when i recieved it i realized after a bit of trouble that no matter what you have to install software from cd first making sure you upgrade firmwre or else you have trouble doing anything with it ones install you can do anything it is perfect as you can see from many reviews enjoy you got so much things you can do installing songs is easy have fun like i did leave a good feedback to the person you brought it off but suddenly you accidently a little bit or even tap it against a table accidently and then you realize your problem starts as it wont load anythingbut the creative sign maybe the computer can find it no it cant well i should be able to use the recovery option oh no it loads when you click on any it just pauses. so you do some research find bad reviews realize it contains moving parts inside it and so you decide to send it bad paying money for postage plus they tell you to fax then the proof of delivery so that if you dont have it what you got against them oh well it doesn't matter about the extra money i had to burn or the bad customer service but at least i got another one but get ready the whole cycle will start again but you but so much days trying to get the item from them that you warrenty ran out hope this review help please email me on candyshopping@msn.com i can give you basic ideas how to cure some problems but if you haven't brought one keep it that way
..::Creative Zen Micro DARK blue::.. October 30, 2006 Rob* (SOUTH WALES MASIV!) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
What an amazing machine! I've got a huge music collection but 6gig is more than enough for me. Had a few problems with it though. Downloaded a firmware update from the creative website and installed it on the micro. It froze halfway through and buggered the firmware. Tried formatting the disk and reloading the firmware but didn't want to play. I phoned Creative and within half an hour a new one was on its way! Another problem with it is that it doesnt come with a charger. Easily solved, either buy one for about 20 or charge it using the usb on a PlayStation2. Trust me it really works! The Micro sounds great with all its EQ settings and even a 5-band custom eq. Sneaky tip- if people complain that you're music is too loud and they dont want to hear the hissing, turn down the slider on the far right on the custom eq screen! The headphones that come with it sound better than a 25 Sony pair from Argos. The removable disk function is very useful and you can change what size you want it to be. The transfer time is lightning quick transfering an album in about ten seconds. Even with its flaws it is a truly brilliant machine. Better than anything Apple can churn out and great value for money!

On the plus side, the Zen Micro has a great sound and the downloading is easy and intuitive. But, and it's a big but, there are serious issues with the software: the Zen freezes nearly every time it's switched on, and though I know a " fix" for it, it can still take half an hour to restore. Check the discussion lists - I should have done this more carefully before I bought it. I've had it 3 months, and would return it for replacement but there is a slight crack in the case (my fault) so I'm guessing the suppliers will wriggle out of replacing it. This software problem is a known issue with Creative and several of their players, but they don't appear to acknowledge directly that there is an inherent fault. Don't just take my word for it, hunt out the user forums. Oh, and the battery life is nowhere near the 12 hours claimed by the manufacturers. Four hours is more accurate.

I bought one of these about 6 months ago & in general it is good. There are two problems: 1. The radio is very poor - I can't use it on the train and even sat still in the garden it is poor (worse than the radio on my old nokia mobile) 2. The "select" button is placed in the centre of the slide control, making it very difficult to browse the menus without accidentally operating it (and hence selecting something unintended). Other reviews refer to this problem as one of oversensitivity. The support is also not good - my unit died after only a week but it took several more weeks to convince Creative that it was indeed faulty before they eventually replaced it.
