| Customer Reviews:
Very dark image November 11, 2008 Cameron's Mum (South Yorks, UK) Bought this on the strength of previous reviews. But am very disappointed. Video image is dark in daylight and very dark in artificial light even with the LED light switched on. Have tried to adjust the settings but this makes the image very pixelated. Don't be fooled by the photo of the webcam, the cord is very short - so on a video call you have to have an upwards sideways view of your face. The cord is not really long enough to reach from a USB port to the top behind the laptop screen.
Happy! August 29, 2007 Eilidh Macbeath (Scotland) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was really worried when i bought this WebCam because i didnt knwo what the quality would be like. But i am happy to report its really really good. yes yes the Cord could have been a lot longer but thats not a problem if u have an extra connection cord lying in the house. I am happy i would suggest you buy it because for money i believe u get good quality. 5 stars because its meant for a laptop (works on computers too)and thats why it has a short cord. i like it alot
Quality in a simple and sleek design, very mobile and handy June 30, 2007 Chaz (London, United Kingdom) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I agree with the previous reviewer. It is small and simple, very handy for a mobile laptop user, which I am. Overview: # Quality of the video is good, similar to other medium range VGA web cams. # It has a still photo capture feature which takes pictures of 800x600 pixel dimensions. # Doesn't have loads of software -- just the driver, and a Philips "VLounge" software to use it as a camera for capturing movies and stills. # Plugs into the laptop and stays intact # The cord is 30 cms (12 inches) long. May be inconvenient for PC users, but a USB extension cord can do the trick. # Cord is rigid enough to stand on its own, can be bent into shapes like a pole or a stand. # The light can be turned on or off physically by sliding the cover. # Light is handy while typing in dark conditions; the pictures and videos are grainy though. # It works with Yahoo! Messenger and Skype, haven't been able to test with other software yet. Positives: + Very handy for a mobile laptop users + Doesn't take up much space and can be slid in anywhere in the laptop bag. + The cover protects the camera and the light. Also acts as a switch to turn them off. Negatives: - The chord should have been longer. - It should have been cheaper by 5 pounds. Extra costs: # If you need a longer cord, or the USB port is far away from your monitor, you will need a USB extension cord. This can cost from 1 to 3 pounds.
Good Looking Camera. July 2, 2006 F. C. von Roenge (Chav Land) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
The Philips SPC 610NC is a nice webcam. The USB Cord is a little short but is not a problem if you have a notebook or a monitor with inbuilt USB. The software is almost non existant but on Windows XP it should work plug and play. Drivers are included. The camera has grainy image in low light but the inbuilt lamp works. The lamp can be turned of physically so there is no need to fiddle around with software or bluetack as on most other models. Great build quality.
