Looks nice, but.... September 11, 2008 Lendrick (London) Out of the box this looks great, though the positioning of the earphone socket & controls are a bit odd. The sound and video quality based on the installed samples seemed pretty good. But that was as far as I got. Despite trying 2 different PCs both of which matched the suggested spec, and dowloading various drivers and utilities from the Phillips website, I could not get Windows XP to recognise it. So back it went to the supplier, and I am now down the cost of the hefty postage charges. Reading around on the web this seems to be a not uncommon problem with these players - shame - I was quite excited when I opened the box.
Just right September 11, 2008 AD (UK) Needed a basic player, and got more than expected. Nice little piece of kit, looks good, feels good and sounds great.
More than a stopgap May 12, 2008 Mr. M. Glover (Edinburgh, Scotland) I bought the Philips 1gb as I was looking for something to tide me over until I'd either saved up or made up my mind on something bigger and flashier. The price stood out by a mile. It's got a great little screen. I'm using it mainly on a bus to work so the sound quality isn't that much of an issue really but it's pretty good anyway. I copied all the songs that were on my iTunes playlist (approx 75) and that does me for the amount of time I use it. The shuffle feature makes sure I don't get bored. For under 23 who could argue. I'm seriously thinking of not bothering with any other MP3 player.
it does its job fine by me! May 11, 2008 Shabana Mannan (London) I got this because I needed something cheap unlike an ipod and this was fine by me I am happy with it. works easy picture and sound is good no problems yet.
Outstanding value!! May 8, 2008 C. M. Perkins (Stirling, Scotland.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I cannot believe how good this is for the money. I just wanted a basic MP3 player for the gym and couldn't really justify the price of an iPod (and didn't like the limitations imposed by iTunes). Came across this and thought it would do the job. It's actually a really smart looking device, feels like a real quality build - not at all like some of the plasticky 20- 30 players I'd seen in the shops. I just wanted an MP3 player but I'm really impressed with the range of features - FM radio, voice recorder, video and photos, graphic equaliser, etc. I don't intend using it for video but converted a file and transferred it just to see and the quality is amazing! Syncs with Media Player 11 easily for music and I didn't have any trouble with the video conversion using the Philips software. My only disappointment is how quickly 1Gb got used up. I have 13 albums on it, some quite long 80 minute compilation CDs, all at 192K, so for a little extra I could have got the 2Gb version. My one tiny gripe is that with a continuously mixed compilation there's a momentary pause when it goes from one track to the next (only a fraction of a second, but noticeable), which you don't get with a CD. I've never used another MP3 player, so I don't know if that would be common to all of them. Overall though, it's a cracker.
