1 out of 5 stars Bad personal experience   October 19, 2008

I bought a refurbished version of this receiver and it didn't work anymore after one year. I was a bit surprised to see how many of these was sold a "refurbished" item by the same seller that time but still opted to buy this because of the lower price it had. I paid the price!

3 out of 5 stars Top UP TV not available on this receiver   November 5, 2007

Due to changes by Top-up TV it is not longer possible to get a top up card for this freeview box as Top-Up TV have withdrawn their Top-Up service from all boxes except Thomson, which they sell on their own website. I have had to return my Philips box and buy a Thomson from Amazon to replace my first choice, no reflection on Amazon or Philips, Top-Up TV themselves have created this problem for would-be purchasers

3 out of 5 stars OK for a basic freeview box, but not brilliant   September 2, 2007

Like the other reviewer below mentioned, if you like to flick through the channels with the bottom on screen display, while still watching the current channel, then do not buy this freeview box because it does not offer this functionality. The box is nice and small as is the remote. It has worked fine with setanta for me and set up was simple. Overall I think it is expensive for what you get, but I am a fan of Philips products so am happy to use this over the other lesser known brands.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely No Problems   July 14, 2007

Absolutely no complaints about this box. Plugged it in and it immediately scanned to get the TV and Radio stations. Very good picture and I live in a vale where reception is normally not great.

I then subscribed to setanta sports and received a card. Put the card from setanta into the slot at the front of this freeview box and within 20 minutes I was watching the sports channel.

A friend of mine pay 4 times this for a freeview box with a card slot and picture and reception are no better than this box.

1 out of 5 stars I expected more...   February 26, 2007

I am very disappointed with this product. I already had a Ferguson freeview box but I needed one with an audio out connection to connect to my amplifier.

In fairness, this set is actually an improvement on the Ferguson in terms of sound and picture quality but when browsing the channels to plan your evenings viewing - this box is completely retarded.

With my old box I could see what was on a number of channels at any one time on one screen, setting reminders for whatever I 'might' like to watch that evening whilst still watching the channel I was already on in a small box in the left hand corner - genius!

I thought this was industry standard...

The Philips box is different: there is no way of browsing what may be on another channel without leaving the channel you are on completely which can cause problems if somebody else is watching a TV show. This means you have to go to every channel available individually in order to see what is showing that day. If you find something you want to watch, there is no way of setting a reminder!! There is a timer - to use this you select 'set timer' on the program you want to watch which then takes you to the 'timer screen' from which there is no way back to where you were so you have to go back to square 1 and start again...

Whereas I used to be able to plan an evenings viewing in 60 secs all without disturbing anybody else's viewing pleasure, it now takes me more like 10 mins and even then I have the timer swapping and changing channels for me and often chopping the very end or beginning off programs!!
