Product Description The DVD-F1080 DVD player from Samsung answers all your needs with its minimalist design and maximum power! It can play several formats, including DivX and MPEG4 files among others, and thanks to its HDMi connection, it can play your films in high definition by upscaling standard 480p discs to up to 1080p! Its slim, square form and touch-sensitive buttons give it an elegant and modern design that will fit in even the smallest spaces!

Problematic November 17, 2008 Andrew Stevens (Farnborough, Hampshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What looks like the future of DVD players is plagued with problems. It will not play all DIVX and XVID movies and when you want to play a DVD you need to insert the DVD and then reboot the system before it will be detected. Samsung are no help with the problems and refuse to release a firmware update to solve these problems. Personally I wouldn't recommend this player and strongly advise you choose a different one!
Cheap to Buy - Exspensive Looking - Good Upscale Image November 15, 2008 Mr. A. J. Cooper (Weston Super Mare, UK) Very Impressed - Recommended! Matches the Samsung TV's Nicely and then works off the TV Remote.
Notes on unboxing November 5, 2008 JTAN (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
So far I'm happy with the product, but here's what the product description doesn't say: In the box, you get: -black shiny DVD player, goes well with a newish HD TV -Component SD cable -UK Power adapter -Remote control and battery -Manual (includes English version) This DVD player is only designed for use with an HDMI cable, but no HDMI cable is provided. There is no SCART socket on the back of the box. The remote control is TINY. Its about the same size as my mobile phone. It unusually uses a watch battery, which is provided and easy to install. Whenever you press the Power button on the remote it emits a squeak - although it doesn't seem to affect the other buttons. Unlike my Woolworths Value DVD Player, the remote is not too sensitive, so you don't have to worry too much about lining it up perfectly with the sensor. If you were hoping to fit the player in between the LCD telly and its stand think again, its too fat to fit in the gap. It will probably be ok on top of a CRT telly but that won't be HD so its a bit pointless. Quite an interesting feature that hasn't been mentioned so far is the buttons on the unit, which are sensitive-touch-pad things instead of actual buttons. You just have to rest your finger on the top of the raised icons and it performs the action. This looks quite nice and is easy to use. I don't understand why it wasn't mentioned earlier as its a nice feature. The FF feature, as mentioned, skips at 2x, 4x, 64x and 128x - which is a massive chasm for no apparent reason. The intruction manual says on the first page that the DVD player does NOT support these formats: DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, CD-ROM, CDV, CDI, CVD, CDG (audio supported only) Ability to play back depends on recording conditions: DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RW (V mode) The unit may not play certain CD-R, CD-RW and DVD-R due to the disk type or recording conditions. Other than all this is very happy with the DVD player - excellent build quality, good picture and sound. The player is quiet apart from the initial beep; I can't hear it at all when I pause the DVD. Decent service from the seller, Pixmania, it arrived in less than a week. However, they didn't provide much info between ordering and the product arriving. I got an email that the order had been received, then an email that it had dispatched, but there was no way to track the order or the package's location. This didn't affect my rating or my satisfaction, which is quite high.
Looks great, but performance doesn't match looks October 15, 2008 Bob Holmes (East Anglia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought one of these a month ago. o It's a fairly good upscaler, but when compared to Samsung's own BD-P1500 player, the picture, tho' very good, was not quite as detailed or as clear as on the P1500. o The response of the unit when using the remote is rather slow, and remote signals are ignored if issued in immediate succession. Eg, play - ff - play. o The fast forward options are limited (on mine at least), to: x2, x4, x8, x64. Very big jump from x8 to x64, rather odd and not particularly useful. o Fast forward is NOT smooth, it is very jerky, even at just double speed. o After stopping a DVD and trying to resume, the player occasionally seems to ignore key presses both on the remote and on the unit, except eject. This was consistent behaviour of the unit and I've given it a 3 based on these factors alone. Unfortunately, and this is just a point of interest, recently when ejecting a disc, it has ejected the disc still spinning. And as of yesterday, the unit has now given up playing discs and doesn't want to recognise them. I am certainly disappointed as despite it's 'faults' I really like the player and consider it great value for money for a decent upscaler with good looks.
It does do multi region October 6, 2008 Mark R. Cooper (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Nice little player, this one. Good picture quality, good sound and you can make it multi region. The instructions in the other review are correct except you need to press info to get rid of the text in the top left corner. Only two little criticisms, neither of which are important. The remote is a little small and fiddly and the player makes a shrill bleep when you turn it on, which is a little annoying. Overall, a great little unit and highly recommended
