Note: This review is also posted (by me, with minor edits) on Comet's website. I took a chance on this TV because it is substantially discounted by at least one seller at the time of writing (December 2008) but even at the reduced price, this is a very poor excuse for a TV. After three days of becoming increasingly annoyed by the set's various quirks and weaknesses, I returned it for a refund. Good points: -Nicely styled, reasonably strongly made for the price. -Has A lot of inputs for a TV this size and price - includes PC input, Composite/AV, Component, 2 HDMI, 2 Scart. This was one of the main reasons I chose it. -Works very well as a PC monitor via the 15 way 'D' PC style input. In this mode the screen shows that it can be fantastically clear and sharp, bold and colourful with excellent contrast. -No dud pixels at all on the one I had. Bad points: Sound (from the downward-firing speakers) is wooden and quite muffled. Plenty of volume to spare, but not much clarity. At least one of the SCART sockets is supposed to be a 'FULL' scart socket according to LG's own product info but there is no obvious way to force either of the SCART sockets into RGB (rather than composite video) mode. (Yes, I read the manual). I connected an old Xbox (Original) to one of the SCARTS expecting the digitally-generated image to look as clean, sharp and clear as it always does on my old RGB video monitor. It was astoundingly bad, very low in contrast and detail and very, very soft (not at all sharp). The TV has 5 simple aspect settings: 4:3, 16:9, Zoom1, Zoom2, and 'Original' in which it autodetects the aspect ration of the incoming signal. Experimenting with the aspect setting highlights a fairly serious problem. The aspect ratio of the physical screen is not quite 16:9, it's a little too 'tall'. It should therefore display 16:9 material with narrow black bars at the top and bottom of the picture in order to maintain the correct aspect ratio. Instead, it stretches 16:9 pictures vertically to make them fit the physical screen, giving people long faces and distorting circular objects into vertical ovals. THERE IS NO WAY TO OVERRIDE THIS. You can not manually adjust the height of the picture to correct the aspect ratio. As with all digital TV screens, one of the many tasks of the internal controller is to perform realtime up-conversion of standard definition 625 line input signals (from SCART or the internal tuner) into an image which will fit into the pixel rows and columns available on the screen. It will usually strive to create the largest possible picture that it can on the available screen area (while maintaining the original aspect ratio) and preserve as much of the detail from the original input signal as faithfully as possible. Some TVs do this quite well, but this unit does it very poorly, spawning highly noticeable and intrusive digital artefacts which were never present on the original images (as confirmed by using an analogue video monitor to view them). This effect is most obvious around the edges of on-screen titles such as the rolling ticker-tape or banners on news channels, but you can see it around any sharp edges. Skin tones are flat and faces are averaged out into uniformly pink mush, lacking any lines or detail. Dark areas are too dark even when the overall brightness is correct, so the faces of people who are turned away from the light become so dark that it is difficult to see the expressions on their faces. The set lacks any kind of 'Gamma' adjustment to compensate for this. To summarise: -As a PC monitor: The set is excellent. However, if you connect an XBOX 360 to the PC input via an AV-VGA lead, the 16:9 image output is subject to the same vertical stretching problem mentioned elsewhere. Circular gunsight reticules, scanners and so on become vertical ovals. -As a display for connection to an RGB scart video source such as a video game console (Via Scart) or a DVD player (Via Scart), this set is VERY POOR due to digital conversion artefacts, the unit's inability to show 16:9 images in actual 16:9 aspect and uncertainty over whether the set even supports RGB input on the SCART sockets. -As a TV, this set is VERY POOR because the received images suffer the same degradation / addition of digital artefacts / vertical stretching of 16:9 pictures as with images passed to it via the SCART sockets. I can NOT recommend this product as a TV or video monitor. If you want a PC monitor which can (at a push) also function as a TV then you may want to consider this product.
Fantastic LG 22" TV December 10, 2008 Dorcas (York, UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Did some research and settled for this TV, best price was from Comet just 225. It replaces the old portable in the bedroom and what a difference - we have been totally amazed at the picture quality which is fantastic. Sound is also good. Connectivity is very good and setup was straight forward - it's a lovely looking compact TV. Excellent product - just buy one.

Great TV just taken delivery from Amazon. Good price and very easy auto setup. Very clear picture & great sound. The TV is the same size as my old 19" because the border is so slim, great for a study where you need a good picture but do not want space taking up.
Superb November 19, 2008 Mr. Pj Johnston (Ulster) 45 out of 45 found this review helpful
I too was a little wary about buying without any reviews but my last LG (RZ17LZ50) gave me 2 years hassle free use, and am only upgrading because its 17" so took the plunge and bought one. Looks great, brilliant reception on freeview even with a portable ariel, EPG has a video preview window and is very easy to follow. Sound from the hidden speakers is far better than my last one. On the hole picture quality through the non HD freeview channels is good. Looked a little unnatural with a brightly coloured set on one chatshow but everything else was great. Then I tried my xbox 360 set it to max resolution 1080p and can honestly say I was amazed at the picture quality. Colours look fantastic and warm and no lag whatsoever. I cant say if this is better than a Sony, but I can say I wouldnt be at all surprised if it was.
