Best LCD Hi Def TV on the market November 14, 2008 Mr. Joseph Gordon Downie (Stok-on-Trent, England) Just bought this tv (not from Amazon), and having set it up straight from the box, all I can say is WOW! What a picture, Brilliant! It was so simple to set up. Just plug it in. Follow the on screen questions and it basically set itself up. I won't try and make any adjustments for a couple of days, just to let the set settle in. I will then tweak the picture settings to get the absolute best out of the TV. At present I am using a Sky+ box, so it is only in standard definition for the moment, however on 20th December Sky will be installing Sky HD and then WooHoo! Santa is bringing a new Panasonic BluRay player (bought from Amazon) and some BluRay DVDs. I have to say that the SD picture is superb, every bit as good as my Toshiba 32" CRT TV that it's replaced. It was a toss up between the Sony and a Samsung 686 and I'm glad I went for the Sony.
STUNNING! November 11, 2008 Mr. M. A. Turner (Alton in Hampshire - England) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Sony KDL-40W4500 - 40" Widescreen 100hz / 1080P Full HD Bravia LCD TV - With DLNA Technology & Freeview Straight out of the box and into its stand and within seconds stunning TV quality! I was a little apprehensive stageing from a Panasonic 32 inch CRT to this set, but I need not have worried. Analogue picture quality through a standard Sky + box is awesome. No halos, no blur, just excellent sharp reproduction. I expected some pixelation, bit so far, none whatsoever. The only slight issue is the sound quality which is a bit tinny, but I have only glanced at the instructions. In summary, why are you considering any other TV? This is AWESOME!
Sony Bravia W4500 Review October 16, 2008 Mary Whitfield 25 out of 26 found this review helpful
First off, wow, 40 inches is a great size...If i had gone to 46" i wouldn't have been able to get it onto my desk. After putting the stand on the tv which takes around 3 min, you plug it in and you have to turn it on with the power button ontop of the tv (took a while to figure that one out). I got this tv because i watch movies, tv, and play games on my PLaystation 3 and the results are beyond what i expected. The playstation 3's menu looks sharper and games look even more life like. The Tv also has a menu like the ps3's. If you want to change from ps3 to tv or pc inputs then you press home and move to the catorary you want. Films like 300 and casino royale 007 look amazing, with the 24p true cinema, Standered tv also looks good... And to finish it off two things that i think really show how much thought has gone into the tv, the logo lights up, and also the power lights ect are on a slim plastic see through strip like on the X series at the bottom of the tv, just little things but they do look cool. Overall i think its a brilliant tv and i would recomend it to anyone who was looking to spend around 950 on a tv.
Amazing with HD, ok with Digital TV October 16, 2008 I. King (UK) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I bought this TV to replace a 5 year old Sony 28" CRT telly. As with the other reviewer I bought a Sony Blu-Ray player at the same time. The picture with an HD source is absolutely amazing. Pin sharp and almost 3D-like it's so detailed. The picture with Freeview on the other hand, needs a little fiddling with to get it right. For instance, it's best with the 'Noise Reduction' feature turned off but the 'MPEG Noise Reduction' turned on to max. After you make these adjustments the slightly blurred effect calms down and it all becomes much more watchable. I still don't find it as clear as my old CRT telly but I think that's more down to the fact it's a much bigger screen and it has such a high resolution. It's definitely worth going through the picture options to see what you think, I find the picture to be most natural with a lot of the aids (such as contrast enhancers, Live colour etc) turned off. All in all though it's a beautiful bit of kit (it looks really smart sat in the living room and that's important with something as big as this), the picture is fine with broadcast TV and awesome with HD. I'm pretty happy with it.
Its fab October 12, 2008 Mr. Jeremy K. Pack (UK) 23 out of 26 found this review helpful
It's hard to write a review of my 40W4500 objectively as I also purchased a Sony Blueray player and Sony Home Cinema system at the same time. So for example I have no idea of the sound quality of the TV is as I have never heard it, it always sends the sound to home cinema system. So what do I know? The picture it displays when from the aerial (in built FreeView) is great it must be upscaling the standard TV picture and it does look great. I have the same experience when it recieves TV from my hard drive recorder via scart. The picture on DVD is harder to judge as the DVD player does the upscaling, but interestingly I watched my mates, 6 month old Tosh play blade runner on my Sony Blueray player and there were lots of articfacts or shadows or what ever you want to call them, that is stuff like shadows and the like on the picture that are not in the movie. This TV plays the movie with out any rubbish getting into the picture. We are delighted we went all Sony as we only need one control (any of them!) to control what ever we are watching. Setup was simple, you just screw it to the stand and start plugging the cables in. There is an auto setup to tune the TV etc. So as far as I can see this is a great product. FWIW
