Brilliant picture December 20, 2008 John Green (Sheffield, UK) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
We finally bought this Panasonic yesterday, (19 December 2008) having initially looked into 37" and 32" alternatives. We had actually chosen, and brought home, a 32" Panasonic, but it absolutely dominated the living room and my wife said "no way"! So it was back to the drawing board. With High Definition best on screens of 32" and over, HD Ready was going to be sufficient. On unpacking it and setting up, even under Eco mode, the picture in studio conditions of news programmes seemed ultra bright and tiring, but a small adjustment on brightness and contrast made the picture much better. I followed some advice in a "What Hi-Fi" special and "grab just about any Pixar or LucasFilm DVD released since 2000, and you'll find the 'THX Optimiser' - this has tests for both the sound and video settings. Ten minutes later, the picture was perfect. We tried some old videos recorded on long play mode and transferred to DVD and picture quality was about equivalent to some of the daytime repeats of old TV series. Turn to recently commercially produced DVDs such as Planet Earth or home recorded programmes on the Panasonic DIGA Hard Drive Recorder (DMR-EX95VEBS)or live broadcasts and it was stunning. DVDs of holiday photographs also showed brilliantly. There are both phono inputs and outputs so now we can listen on the surround sound system to either TV broadcasts or recordings even while the recorder is busy recording another channel. Our much older TV had no sound outputs, so this is a major advance for us. The sound produced by the television's own speakers is very good, but connect it to an external amplifier and good speakers and it becomes thoroughly engaging. We bought ours for 406.90 including a five year warranty. So in two words my advice is "buy it!"
Very Good TV November 23, 2008 David Walsh (London, UK) 47 out of 47 found this review helpful
I've been looking for a 26" for our kitchen and had narrowed the choice down to the Sony V4000 and this Panny. I saw both side by side in the local John Lewis (when a rugby match was showing) and must say that the Panny's picture appeared just slightly less blurred than the Sony's. The Sony appeared to have a tad more colour (but to the point that it appeared almost too artificial) and slightly better sound, but the Panny's picture was better and appeared better able to cope with fast moving action. The Panny's SD-card capability (which alloows you to slot your digital camera's SD card into the rear of the TV and show the photos on the TV) was a welcomed extra. I subsequently bought the Panny and, I must say, I'm delighted with it; Freeview picture is superb on the main digital channels (obviously it is sometimes not completely perfect on the 'secondary' digital channels but this is due to the weaker bitrates that these channels broadcast) and even fast-moving scenes (rugby, MOTD, F1 etc) are excellent (even better than my excellent 42" Panny plasma). The only reason I'm not giving the 5th star is that the sound could have been slightly better and the SD card-slot could have been at the side/front for easier access), but I'm being incredibly picky here; it is absolutely fine!
Near perfection October 8, 2008 Mr. R. Wilkinson (Lisburn, N. Ireland) 85 out of 85 found this review helpful
An excellent update on the previous model (TX-26LXD70); Picture detail excellent and sound amazing for internal speakers (I use it in a small bedroom 3mx2m. The inclusion of an SD Card Slot is a useful addition for HD quality slide shows. HDMI and other connectivity good. Viera link usefully controlls both hard disk DVD Recorder and TV. Set uo simple and mostly automatic; TV Guide and EPG easy to use. 5 year Guarantee on purchase shows Panasonic's commitment to reliability.
