A TV that will last for years October 28, 2008 E. A. Haselden (Plymouth, UK) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
Working as a professional TV Editor for the likes of BBC, ITV etc I wanted to make sure I could get a TV that had a number of specs before I bought it. I wanted a TV that would last me at least ten years and I also wanted something that I could hook up a BluRay Player and a Professional Hi Def Camera (Canon XHA1) to. The TV arrived and the delivery guys brought it up 4 floors to my flat in London. They were very careful with it, even though my girlfriend told them to `chuck it over there!!' `Chuck it!!?!' they replied... `er... we don't think so' - great service. The TV is very customisable, allowing the user to reach really deep blacks and has great little features in order to improve a scrappy image. Digital Noise reducer and the film mode are especially nice. DNR reduces the grainy pixel noise you get with broadcasts and the film mode seems to give a high refresh rate creating a lovely high res effect cleaning up a jerky image you can get sometimes, surprisingly improving most DVD and lower res programmes. The sound is flat when you get the TV but that's because the default graphic equaliser is set to flat. A slight adjustment there and it was sounding lovely. It couldn't handle the bass at higher volumes, but to be honest if you are going to buy an expensive TV and why not bother splashing out an extra 100 or so on the sound by buying a system? The TV comes into it's own with HD resolution with Camcorders, PS3 and the BluRay all looking totally out of this world. The image is real jaw dropping, so much so that going back to DVD and TV broadcasts is hard to stomach. All in all the TV is a superb all-rounder with a lot of customisation for the enthusiast and some great presets for the `just get on with it' customer. 10/10 from me. The good: Deep Blacks, Film Mode, USB interface to listen to music and look at pics!!, any form of Hi Def, the TV looks sexy, 46" Display, freeview built in. The Bad: the freeview froze once, Freeview TV guide processor could be a little quicker, the speaker could have had a little more power.... er... that's it... Buy this TV with confidence.... A great product.
Cool tv October 4, 2008 Bobbie B 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Ordered this TV on Sunday and received it on Thursday around 11am using the super save free delivery. Liked the tracking of the product via email but I expected to receive a call to say when my product was arriving so almost didn't get time off work to wait for the delivery. Also surprise to see only one person to deliver the TV - Considering how much I paid for it I would expected a little more care would been taken. Not sure if paying extra would of helped. Anyway about the product. Just viewing through SD at the moment. But have to say the Freeview is rather good. It does take about 10 mins to get the colours right as the standard set up is not good as it seems matted out. But with a play around with the simple controls allows you to find the right picture. Also the auto configuration of the Freeview was quick. (Oh a tip you might what to set the transpacy of the menu to "High" so you can see the image easier But I was very pleasantly surprise to see the DVD quality - again SD and makes me think what HD would look like. Was very impressed. Especially watching Doomsday which has a lot of blacks and the car chase scene looks great. No picture judder at all. But if you use the dynamic filter the image looks like it is in fast forward in the gun fire scenes. So best to switch it off. But the downside: The sound is ok but only on low volumes - but who buys a HD tv and does not have a home cinema anyway. Recommend to get a proper tv stand - It not that heavy about 27kg, but weight distribution might make you think twice about using a standard piece of Ikea furniture. I did consider a Sony 46W4000 which does have a sharper image - I think the blacks are deeper - When it seems the case when comparing it in Currys to this TV. But I had to spend about 1 hour cross referencing it to believe it. Initially there is not much difference. Infact I compared against a seris 7 which as a 70,000:1 contrast and I can't really notice anything from HD source. But the display movie was a slow moving picture "Get Smart" trailer so perhaps different for sport or action movies. Overall a great buy for the money.
What a great TV! July 18, 2008 P. Scott (UK) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
Having bought an Acer AT4250, which never worked properly from day one, this Samsung is its replacement. What a fantastic TV! Bright, clear, colourful, smooth. Playstation3 games and blu-ray movies? Amazing! I just hope that it will continue to work for the guarantee period of 5 years, unlike the Acer AT4250. Do yourself a favour, pay the extra for a 30,000:1 contrast ratio. Its worth it.
