The 3am fault & two replacements later! November 5, 2008 K. P. Cullum (Hampshire, England) We also experienced the 3am fault previously mentioned. It turned itself on at 3am - no picture but volume blaring! We also got absolutely nowhere with the Grundig helpline - promised a call back but none received. I've been told that it is caused by a software update which occurs at this time - not really what you want for a bedroom TV. Also found the blue light incredibly annoying. First set was replaced with another which also had a fault - the remote only worked intermittently - engineer tried several different remotes before announcing that the TV was faulty. Sorry Grundig, but after two brand new sets both being faulty from the offset we won't be back. Now very happy with my 19" Samsung & mini DVD player thanks.
Ok for what it does with one amazingly bad fault. October 30, 2008 S. Wallman (Essex, UK) Have had this TV for a couple of months now as a TV in the bedroom. Mostly it does what it says on the tin with freeview and DVD player built in. However as listed by a previous reviewer the TV has an incredible fault of switching itself on every morning at 3am! There is sound but no picture so as a workaround you must remember to turn the sound down before switching off. A 40 minute wait on their customer "help"line said they were looking in to it and would call us back - unsurprisingly no call has been returned. The blue standby light is also very bright. In summary it does what it should do but I wished I'd spent the extra on the Daewoo version instead.
Very poor picture quality September 28, 2008 Nick (London) The LCD quality in this TV is shockingly bad. Images are often extremely under- or over-saturated with some of the worst false contouring I've seen. Shading (particularly with flesh tones) is non-existent. I made the mistake of buying this set without viewing it first; don't do the same as me. It's really only suitable for very occasional use in a guest bedroom.
Check the prices ! August 1, 2008 Thrifty (Hampshire UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you are thinking of buying this TV, check the prices. I found it at Empire Direct for 199.00 + 9.99. delivery. I have not ordered one yet, as some of the reviews are not what I wanted to hear. However, I can't find better value.
Better than expected July 27, 2008 Mr. A. Owen (UK) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The Grundig "Elegance" I did my research before buying this item, so no real surprises for me - Although I'd only seen a couple of reviews that mentioned that the DVD player is REGION FREE (will play all dvd's from all regions!) This wasn't mentioned on the box or in-store (you would have thought that this would have been a selling point!) Another omission in information is the PC/VGA IN port at the back (again, you would have though that being able to plug your computer in to the screen and use it as a monitor would be a selling point!) The remote control is easy to use (once you realise how to change between DVD/Digital TV/Analog TV/Hi-def Inputs (top centre button)) There are also some controls on the side of the screen (Power, Input, Menu, Channel + & -, Volume + & -, Disc eject, Play/pause) as well as a Headphone socket. The USB slot is handy for playing MP3s, WMA and showing JPEGs and is accessed through the DVD section with an easy to use menu. There is a grab handle, molded into the top/back of the screen which makes it much easier to put it on its base when you fist get it and very easy to move it about or carry it. Also in the box was a leaflet that said - Grundig is part of the CarbonNeutral scheme and this TV will be carbon neutal for one years worth of viewing - A nice little touch. The Only downside I can see (except that Freeiew isn't available in my area yet!!!) is the small 3watt stereo speakers - They're alright and will go as loud as you would expect for a small TV, although don't expect audiophile quality. Sound gets a bit tinny at volume, but if you care about sound quality you would add a separate Amp and speakers to any TV setup.
