Good, am pleased, but some niggles require patience January 5, 2009

I am generally very impressed with this remote. It has achieved what I haven't been able to with several others (i.e. it lets me control an av amp and a hifi amp located in the same room). Lots of remotes can probably do this now, but several years ago that would have been impossible at this price.
In all it controls a Naim cd3.5 & Nac 102, Sony KDL46w2000, Sky HD, Denon AVR2805 & DVD2930 and Apple Macbook pro. So some mainstream stuff and some less common stuff.
Interestingly the less mainstream stuff (i.e. Naim) were perfectly controlled and set up with a macro following the auto setup. As was the Denon stuff.
The mass market sony TV did provide some problems. Mainly in terms of input selection. The default for this had one too many selections (i.e. it had digital tv and analogue tv as separate inputs on the list which is different from way it is designed on the tv). So when selecting inputs it would scroll one too far. This was overcome by deleting analogue tv from the remote list using the software provided. This sorted the problem.
The other problem is crosstalk using codes from the database. This resulted in the up down channel buttons for sky altering the balance on the Nac 102 as well as the channel. This was overcome by selectively learning these commands from the original remote. There is also a mystery button that changes the input on the nac 102 when using it on the sky menus. Hopefully I'll track this down. I presume this is because the codes from the database aren't as narrow as they could be.
It works fine with my Apple as well (both in terms of the included software and replacing the sky remote).
So overall I am impressed. I think it is well worth the price and now use it successfully to replace all my remotes. Battery life is good too. Also when other people try to adjust the volume the activity profiles mean that on the same activity the volume controls the av amp volume. So no more turning up the volume on the TV and making it sound weird (and then me spending ages trying to work out why). So if you want a remote like this then it is a good choice. But be prepared to spend a while setting it up and then a prolonged snagging period to iron out any problems.

The Harmony One is a very well made device and with one exception, lives up to all the claims made for it. Unfortunately that exception made it of little use for the intended purpose - to control a number of devices. A Panasonic Television, a Panasonic DVD/Hard disk recorder/DVB Freeview box, a Denon audio visual receiver and a Panasonic VHS deck. Of these, although all models were contained within the Harmony software data base only the Denon was set up correctly. After daily contact with the help desk (via email) nothing was resolved -matters got worse. The level of service I received was good. Unfortunately they could solve the problem. I guess I spent at least 7 hours trying to program the device - which I think is far too long to be reasonable- I gave up. It may be that the device- which I guess is of US origin has some difficulties with equipment tailored for the UK market. In conclusion a well made but flawed device that has been returned to Amazon.

This product is awesome. I have owned a succession of universal remotes but none of come close to this for functionality and ease of use. Setup took me 30 mins and i would say i have fairly average technical knowledge. The provided software was easy to use and the setup went without a hitch. Previously my wife was virtually unable to use our av setup, now with this remote she can easily operate all of our equipment and was able to do so capably within 10 mins of use. It also happens to be easy on the eye and feels perfectly natural when holding it, not too heavy and not too light. Overall i highly recommend this product

I finally got fed up with 6+ remotes and a 25 universal that never quite did everything I needed it to (meaning i just had one more remote). I Read the reviews on Amazon (ignoring the rare bad ones) and took receipt of this from Amazon today. Unusually for a gadget freak, I am have been reassured by a product that seems to do exactly what it says on the tin. it looks and feels great, matches the rest of my piano black set up and feels as much quality as the rest of my expensive gear. It also does everything you can want it to bar get a beer from the fridge.
Lots of reviews seem to moan about the difficulty of setting this up and it certainly needs an element of computer savvy - but most of this is the "Macro" side of it which, once done, means that what formerly was a total conundrum to my wife of turning anything on, becomes very very simple. To be honest, setting up takes a little tweaking (about an hour), but was much more straight forward than many reviews have suggested.
My only concern is the battery life / docking station. I can't say how this is going to hold up, but since the negative reviews were wrong about the rest i will live in hope....normal batteries would last 5 minutes anyway with colour / touch sensitive screens etc....
Overall, my initial impressions are that i am very impressed - it seems to be well worth the money. As often seems to be the case - you get what you pay for.
Poor - I'll stick with 5 remotes December 30, 2008

(This is the only review I have written to date - I don't usually borther, but have to make these points!)
1. The software is unreliable: It crashes quite often, doesn't start, doesn't connect, displays 'page display error'.
2. Set-up is fiddly: my needs are simple (TV, Amp, Sat, Apple TV) -- yet I still can't get these 'activities' set up
3. The controller doesn't work the volume on my Amp (Denon UTP-99). I suppose I can fiddle and faff to get some adjustment, but isn't the whole point that I tell the remote it's a Denon UTP-99 and that's it?
4. REMOTE HANGS... battery in and out twice already (it's two days old).
At this point, something that is supposed to make life easier actually ends up being a hassle.
I thought this was the best of breed and if you're reading this, some part of you also thinks "it's going to be great" - it just isn't up to scratch.
I'll stick with 5 remotes...
