A fantastic tv you could not find better December 18, 2008 W. Willcox (East Sussex) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bill,East Sussex. I purchase the 37lzd80 from Amazon at the best price I could find it was 300 pounds cheaper than the panasonic shop,I found this TV setting up was a dodle, connecting up the scarts from the DVD-VCR recorder and the satellite receiver and surround sound - I switch on and it took only five mimutes and the set was ready to go, it even downloaded all the stations to the dvd/vcr recorder for you all you had to do was sit back and wait, I did`nt even have to do any tweaking for the picture or sound and switching form sky to freeview is easy,I would recommend this set to anybody, could`nt find any fault and was please I went for the panasonic

Panasonic TX-37LZD80 - 37" Widescreen 1080p Full HD LCD TV- With Freeview What can i say thats not already been said ? I had spent quite a while doing my research on TV's before making this purchase. Firstly it was clear that the picture on the panasonic is streets ahead of the rest of the pack and like others i just could'nt see the difference in picture quality when watching fast moving pictures between the 37LZD85 and this cheaper model, That left me with the choice between this model and the 37LZD81 with freesat. I can't quite understand why you would chose the freesat model without it having some sort of Hard disk recorder incorporated so i discounted it. I live in an area with a very poor TV signal have had a really good new ariel installed but on our old 28"Sony 100hz the picture was still not that good also no freeview box i had tried could give me good digital reception. We are told that things will improve dramatically when they turn off the analogue system in 2010, but until then we rely on sky+ (non HD currently) so i was a bit dubious about buying a digital TV at all but the wife and family convinced me to go for it. Now the TV its self Picture quality is fantastic even on the analogue input and the freeview capability actually gives me some limited access to freeview channels. On sky as you would expect the picture is just awsome far better that i thought from seeing the model on stores. We are all just blown away.Lots of features but most of the adjustments are automatic. Probably the biggest pleasent surprise is the amazing sound quality have'nt even bothered to connect up our sony home cinema system yet as the sound is so good. Any downsides ?no not really only a few niggles Why Why Why dont panasonic and others design their remote controls so that they can control attached devices other than panasonic (I know its called brand lock in!!) Sky manage it!! Organising the TV channels on the tv appears a bit complicated as it assumes that your preference is for the digital freeview channels (i'm still reading the manual on this one) Overall a great buy from Amazon if you can afford to wait them i suspect that it might be a bit cheaper in early 2009 as it is no longer the current model.
Not bad at all! December 13, 2008 Windwalker (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I decided to buy this set after reading all the positive reviews on here. So I thought it only fair to add my twopenneth worth to the list. I did have 2 or 3 other sets on my list which where a little cheaper but had mixed reviews. Bear in mind when I buy any AV equipment I am highly critical if something isn`t `right`. I spent years with audio, tv, laserdisc, AV amps etc, to get my own `set up` just right. This tv however was for the her indoors who does not appreciate the finer points..... There is virtually nothing you need to do to set this tv up except take it out the box and plug it in. As soon as you do this off it goes and sets up all your analogue (if you still have it) and all your digital channels without you having to touch a button. The set looks very easy on the eye, the border around the screen is not too big or too minimalistic. The picture on this set is very good BUT....it needs a good signal, either from a source such as a dvd or blu-ray player or via tv. If you do plug a dvd player into this set dont be connecting it up with a scart lead or you will be missing out on what this set has to offer. I tried a scart lead then then an hdmi lead just to compare the difference. It took me back to the days of VHS versus Laserdisc in terms of image quality. There is plenty of connectivity on the back which sho

I checked all the reviews and as a result this was the obvious choice. It fully lives up to all the comments posted here and elsewhere. If you want a freeview LCD TV of this size (37") then don't bother looking any further. I spent ages comparing sets, visited the local retailers (far higher prices than Amazon!) - save yourself the trouble, order it now!
Exceptionally good picture quality October 17, 2008 M. Bridges (Kent, UK) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Before buying this television I owned the Samsung LE23R87BDX 23" LCD TV. This TV was very high quality and especially good for gaming, however I wanted something a bit bigger, as I have just moved away from home. As I was happy with the Samsung I already had, I decided to go for another Samsung LCD. I bought the LE37A556P 37" 1080P TV from Curry's as the price was good and I had read some good reviews of the TV. However it soon became clear to me that although this TV was adequate at displaying high definition video through the the PS3, and was especially good with Blu-Rays, it was lacking in the standard definition department. With Sky it was very blurry and made me wonder if it was faulty. It also suffered greatly with "tearing" when playing certain PS3 games - this is where the screen briefly gets a line through it when turning on the horizontal axis (in games such as 1st peron shooters), as though the screen cannot keep up with the action on the screen. I decided to return the Samsung to Currys and get a different one. I read reviews on here, and other websites and decided that for the money the Panasonic TX-37LZD80 looked like the best alternative. Since having this TV I have been blown away by its image quality in both standard definition and high definition formats. Through Sky (using scart) the image is very sharp and vivid. It is a world away from the blurriness that seemed the blight the Samsung. While the Samsung offered acceptable performance with high-definition video, it is out classed by this Panasonic. Blu-Ray videos are displayed crisply and clearly when output from the PS3, and games seem to be smother than on the Samsung. I never thoroughly tested the sound quality through the 37" Samsung, but a problem that I found on the 23" Samsung I had was that it would reverberate with bassy tones, and was especially annoying when watching movies or music videos with the sound turned up a bit. There is no such problem with the Panasonic however, and the sound is superb for both music and movies. It has a pretty convincing simulated surround sound mode too, although I am planning on buying a system to use with it at some point in the near future. There are many customisable image options on this television, offering picture optimisation for Movies, etc. as well as other image processing modes - however if you are planning on playing PS3 and X-Box 360 games on it it is probably worth turning much of the processing off; The reason being, that it can cause the image response to slow down a bit. Relating to the menus, I would comment that they are not quite as user friendly as they could be, although this is me being very picky indeed. Another small-ish problem I should mention is that for some reason, I found that it would not go above XGA (1024x768) resolution when connected through a VGA lead to my laptop. The consequence is not only that the resolution is quite low for the size of the screen but also that this resolution is designed for 4:3 ratio screens, not 16:9 (widescreen). The result is that the image is stretched. I couldn't find a way to increase the resolution to be any higher than this on either the TV or the computer. I have had no problem using PC screens at higher resolutions than this with the same laptop before, and as the Pansonic screen is capable of displaying 1080P images through HDMI it seems a bit of shame that it can't cope with higher resolutions when connected to a computer. I have just ordered a new Dell XPS laptop with an HDMI output so this will hopefully offer a way around this problem, rather than a solution, A useful feature worth a mention is that it has an SD card reader, thus allowing you to view photos from your camera on the big screen. In all honesty though, it is a shame that didn't include a card reader for other formats of flash memory such as Sony's memory stick, and also USB drives. My review may have bcome slightly critical towards the end, however I don't want to dissuade anyone who is considering buying this TV from doing so. I simply want to point out any possible flaws that people might find with it - the issues which I have encountered when using it as a computer monitor, for example, may cause some people more problems than others. Overall however, the Panasonic TX-37LZD80 is a pleasure to use. For the money that this TV costs you would be hard pushed to get a 100hz 1080P TV. Without going down the 100hz route, I think that this TV would be hard to beat.
