This player has it all, I previously owned the archos 605 which is a great little player but the added expense of purchasing the extra codecs is a pain, this player will play 99% of files that you throw at it.
The screen is clear and the control interface is easy to use (don't be fooled by other reviews because it's not an archos or apple system, it's meant to be different) the battery info is reliable and may only be off by 10 or 15mins but this goes both ways depending on what codecs it uses.
plus points -
1)generic usb connection
2)Screen is vibrant and the viewing angles have to be seen
3)easy to use (but so is anything with time)
4)Battery life is best in class (maybe because this is in a class of it's own)
5)Sound - if you haven't used a cowon/iaudio compare it to the difference between cassette and cd, they are in a class of there own, and this is no different.
6)bluetooth may belong in sound but the optional wireless headphones are amazing who'd of thought
7)codes the list is unreal If you don't now anything about computers and codecs this is the player for you drop a file in and it plays it's that simple.
Minus points -
1)Cost this player is still expensive but if you add all the upgrades you need with the archos it doesn't seem too bad. plus this feels nice and strong, not a flimsy cheap item like the competition
2)Small HD this is being sorted in the newer models
3)GPS this unit appears to of fallen from the face of the planet so don't hold your breath for it
So why 4 stars not 5 mainly because the faults are not down to the player but rather other factors you'll notice people who don't rate cowon/iaudio equipment as the best have newer used it, Try it, love it, spread the word soon you'll be after a new music player and throwing the ipod away it really is that good. BUT don't be fooled get the 60gb not the 40gb version and upgrade the firmware as this is a necessity

I must state that I do not own and have not used one of these!
However, I'm doing my research as I was certain on an Archos 705, and I did my research before committing.. I'm glad as the Cowon A3 was rated higher and seems better.
I saw on Cowons site that they had the new Q5.
This is where the problems start: public and review sites say that the A3 may be better!
This does not make it true, but its worth doing your homework before buying the Q5 - its more expensive than all the rest too!
*Bah, I must add a rating as Amazon wont let me leave one out! come on Amazon, get with it!
