Terrible July 8, 2008 JT (UK) I've had this device for a couple of years now and it has been nothing but a pain ever since I got it. Trying to store music was always hard work, for some reason it would randomly take tracks off when i was trying to put new ones on and always add other tracks I didn't want on to it. Now the screen has gone funny and I had a look at how to send it in for repair and that seemed like more trouble than it was worth. I won't be getting another Archos device again
Archos AV 700 March 25, 2007 Mark harker (Uk) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I travel 3 hours most days to work in the city and this little toy has been a godsend, with excellent picture quality and quick to transfer from the pc. However I was dissapointed by the fact that after only 3mths the battery is no longer holding charge. To add insult the aftersales service by Archos is terrrible when i tried to get it repaired. I would not buy from them again.
Things to consider February 7, 2007 A. Saeed (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Doesn't play video files with AC3 (surround sound) audio codec, hoping that they come out with a firmware to fix that. Quality of video does look alot better when connected to your TV than on the actual device, depending on the quality of the video you can get a good picture. Other than that it's qwite nifty,
Excellent - only one disappointment January 8, 2007 S. Hodge (London) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
The Archos AV700 does pretty much everything I wanted. I was slightly worried, having read some reviews, that the screen would be a poor quality. I don't find that this is the case at all. I wanted this player to take on holiday for long coach journeys with my girlfriend so it was important that we could see from all angles and with this screen the picture looks the same from all angles. I also found it very useful that with the AV700 plugged in to the docking station it is possible to control it entirely using the remote control, which I think is really good and makes life a lot easier compared to my old mp4 player. From reading reviews I was under the impression that a seperate power lead was not included but this is not the case. The power lead that is plugged in to the docking pad can be plugged directly in to the unit itself so it is not neccessary to take the docking station away with you which is a bonus. My one problem was with the usb hub. I was hoping that I would be able to plug my 20gb usb laptop hard drive in to the hub whilst on the move and transfer files so that I can utilise the extra memory but the usb hard drive is not recognised; probably because there is not enough power to run both hard drives. I can still use usb sticks to expand the memory so its not a total loss at all. It is possible to bookmark lots of differnt video files so that you can return to them at a later date without finding your place manually(Think you can have up to about 16 bookmarks) It doesn't take long to transfer files on to the Archos unless they need converting and I have found very few files that have needed to be converted. All my Avi's run perfectly. I am definitely pleased with my choice and would recomend it to anyone. I haven't attempted to record anything yet though, so can't really say if its good for that or not.
Archos 700 series December 30, 2006 S. R. Sanford 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The 6" wide screen has only 480x234 pixels: the resolution is only just acceptable-certainly not superb. The TV Freeview version even on a good outside aerial is blocky, freezes, half-blank screen: certainly unwatchable. The navigation buttons are not intuitive, badly designed and difficult to fathom. internet and email from a wireless LAN would be better. The 504 series seems to be a far better bet... The unit runs very hot-enougfh to fry an egg! It is heavy, certainly not pocketable. Even so, a clever gadget, but buy a later model line!!! Steve Sanford
