5 out of 5 stars Great portable media player   December 26, 2008

This is something of a short review, more a response to the negative reviews - I love this player. I've had it for almost a year and a half and, although I've dropped it dozens of times, it still plays perfectly fine and at the same quality as when new. The only issue I have is that sometimes it crashes when I'm watching a video, but besides that, it's brilliant. A recommended buy.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy it if you want DVDs on it   December 19, 2008

I recieved this about half a week ago and I have been on the computer all that time trying to convert my dvds. It would not work and if it did, it would take hours and hours and then end up without sound! If you want it for DVDs, then buy a portable dvd player.
The software that comes with it is utterly rubish and takes ages to install. The zencasts themselves are quite good but if you want them on your zen, you have to download them (about 10 mins) and then convert them (didn't work on my computer, there was an error).
So, if you're looking for a music player, don't get this one because you're paying mostly for the video etc and if you're looking for a video player, go out and buy yourself a portable dvd player and, guess what, you don't have to spend hours and hours on the computer decrypting then converting!
I will be sending mine back very soon and getting something else. My advice is, it's a waste of money unless you're a computer expert and know all of the complicated ways of converting etc.
I hope my advice was useful.

1 out of 5 stars Watch out for refurbished passes off as new   December 12, 2008

Many of these Vision Ms are refurbished when the seller claims they are new. Watch out for this. If the serial number begins with R it is refurbished and only carries a 90 day warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Love this mp3 player!!!   December 6, 2008
G. Handy (UK)
I have owned this mp3 player for 3 years now and I have to say - how fantastic!!! Has a few minor drawbacks but none that would prevent me from buying it.
Good Points: *Easy to navigate around- Really simple after the initial confusion that one gets with anything technical!
*Fantastic sound quality
*Many options for 'personalising' such as uploading photos for the background (not possible on an ipod)
*Crisp, clear vision, bright colour
*Good video quality
*FM radio works really well and picks up signal
*Despite some people claiming the touch-pad clicking cannot be turned off, this is not true and is easily done through the 'System' option on the main menu
*Abilty to adjust screen brightness
*Looks good and feels safely built

Not so good points:*Scratches easily so while video quality is good, it is somewhat reduced after it aquires scratches
*Tends to slow down and not respond as quickly after you put a lot of songs/content on there
*Freezes regularly which is very annoying
*Dropping regularly definately takes its toll after a while
*Headphones that come with it aren't great-they are uncomfortable and quiet-go for Wharfedale, 8, Argos
*Took me for ever to work out how to make a playlist

All in all, this is a fantastic mp3 player, lasts a long, long time. One of the best things i have invested in. I would DEFINATELY recommend. Slightly dear but worth it.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy unless you can afford an extended warranty   December 6, 2008
Mr. R. T. Bennett (UK)
Make sure you read this before you buy any Creative player....

I have always been a fan of Creative and a bit anti-i Pod. I have 6 daughters and all have been bought a Creative player over several years. The older players seemed to last for ages but the most recent (last 3 years) have all failed after just over a year. They're particularly weak on the headphone/earplug socket which is bound to get some wear. We've tried all sorts of models, hard disk versions and solid state. The kids love them when they're working but we're all walking away to find something better. None have lasted more than 18 months which is rubbish.

The most recent was a Zen Vision M, which lasted 13 months. It did start to misbehave before that but we weren't sure what it was. Turns out it's a definite hardware fault which can't be repaired economically. In this case, the problem's not related to the earphone socket. My daughter is very careful and it has been beautifully looked after and is spotless. I tried appealing to Creative because it seems unfair that something which costs 00's lasts just over a year. They were only interested in selling me a new one. Incredibly, even then they won't offer any kind of extended warranty on their products. That doesn't say much for their confidence in the technology. They clearly feel it's OK for us to buy a new player after a year or so, no matter how much it cost.

So, whilst I still am a fan of the creative players and would still buy one, learn from my experience over a number of models. Make sure you don't buy one unless you can get an extended warranty with the player. You need one which will give you a new (& up to date) one if the player breaks, at no cost. Don't risk anything less unless you can afford to be disappointed or, are going to throw it away and buy a new one next year.

Hope this has helped you or saved you some heartache.
