I've had my iAudio for two years now.
Cons:
1. It took a while for the menu options to become intuitive, though I was able to speed up slightly by creating keypress shortcuts to the things I used most often.
2. It would be nice to be able to create more than one playlist on the iAudio itself, rather than having to create playlists with something like WinAmp on my computer, and then importing them. It would also be handy to be able to create or edit folders and filenames on the fly, without having to plug it in to a computer.
3. The earphones are not my preferred kind, and are slightly uncomfortable for me to wear.
4. It's not great for video. Mostly it's just that the screen is too small.
5. It's persnickety about picture names; .JPGs will display, .jpg won't, which took me a while to figure out.
6. And I have to admit, not being able to plug it in to recharge or attach to my computer via USB without the weird dongle bit plugged into the bottom annoys me mildly.
Really, that's it in terms of complaints.
Pros:
1. Operationally, it has been completely problem-free. It has been subject to considerable abuse over the past 2 years, including being dropped on a concrete floor a few times, and it works perfectly. I've never had anything go wrong with it.
2. Drag-and-drop works just fine for moving files on and off -- no specialist software needed. Creating/deleting/editing folders and moving files around can be done with Explorer, and the computer treats it as just another USB disk. You can use it for file storage as a USB disk, too, if you really want to waste its capacity on that.
3. It seems to play every audio format known to man, and a few I hadn't heard of before.
4. The battery life is absolutely incredible. I've never had anything this good before. I have the one with the "extended battery" -- advertised 35 hour playback before recharge. I have consistently gotten at least 30 hours.
5. There are a *lot* of user-customisable options for playback, so you can set it up exactly the way you like it.
6. While the in-ear phones which come with it are not the most comfortable design, for me at least, their quality is right up there with Bose. You have to pay serious money to find anything comparable.
7. The sound quality...is...STUNNING. My god. It's awesome. It really is an audiophile's dream, this thing. It makes the standard iPod sound sick. It's just...wow. Did I mention that the sound quality is stunning?
I love this thing, and I wouldn't give it up for love nor money. It's incredibly good quality compared to most of the mp3 players on the market, and robust. I realise that I'm posting this review up after Cowon have already moved on to other models, but if you have a chance to pick one up second-hand it might be worth it to you; and if Cowon's other products are comparable to this in quality, you won't go wrong with new models either.
