Excellent MP3 Player! July 22, 2008 Carl Fox (Barnsley, UK) I've had this MP3 player for almost 3 years and it's still going strong. Battery life is excellent - I use it in the car for about 90 minutes a day and only need to recharge it once every 10 days or so. The build quality is excellent. The metal casing feels so much better than plastic ones. The volume is fine, though I did take the limiter off some time ago. The only drawbacks in my opinion are the software and the charging adapter. I misplaced my adapter a while ago but thankfully found it, as I was looking at around 30 for a replacement. LOOK AFTER YOUR CHARGING ADAPTER!!! The SonicStage software is poor. I had to import the albums, then transfer them and then the next time I connected the NW-HD3 and used SonicStage, it would try to copy over the files again. However, I have found another nifty piece of software. It's called Vaio Music Transfer. I believe it was included with Sony Vaio laptops that came with MP3 players. Anyway, it works a treat. Just load up the program, once it has loaded, connect the NW-HD3, wait for it to says it's ready. Then just open the folder when your songs are on your PC and drag n drop your files onto the Vaio Music Transfer box. It then just copies them over. Google "Vaio Music Transfer" and you should eventually find a download link.
3 years and going strong! January 29, 2008 Ling I bought this MP3 player from Argos when I started university 3 years ago, and it's still working great! Like most people, I initially had loads of problems with Sonic Stage, but the newest version works like a charm! It's now superspeed (20secs per album) to transfer files over. And yeah, I agree with a previous comment about all files being converted to atrac, but with the new sonic stage, most of my files now stay as mp3s unless I want them to change. I've put all my music on, and still have 13 Gb free (doesn't say much for my music collection). I've also uploaded all my uni files onto it too. The battery lasts ageees! I use it whenever I need to walk/bus/sub anywhere, and the last time I charged it was over a week and a half ago. The bass on the player is fab too! And I have no problems with the sound level either, I can sit on the subway with it at half volume and still hear everything. The charger and usb is a bit clunky to carry about. But the player itself is gorgeous! I also bought a sony controller off e-bay, which is amazing. It means my player never leaves my bag (safety!), and it makes it super easy to move from one folder to another, excellent stuff! Like many, I was also torn between this and apple's ipod, and after 3 years of using it, I can deffo say I made the right choice... my friend has gone through 3 ipods in the same time as I've had my Sony!
Brilliant - and the software's not bad either November 7, 2007 C. S. Wright Just bought one of these players and I have to say it is wonderful - it looks great and is tiny for a 20GB MP3 player; its easy to use; the sound quality is great etc. I decided I just wanted a simple player as I hate iPods and all the photo/video MP3 players - I just wanted something that could hold all my music, sounded good and told me what was playing - for this, the Sony NW-HD3 is perfect! Small note: I'd heard, as I'm sure you all have, that the software, Sonicstage, is awful - I found it simple to use and have had no problems with it. Not as good as just 'drag-and-drop', but not as hellishly and hand-wringingly bad as some people make out.
Had it for 2 years with no problems July 12, 2007 M-C (Ireland) I bought this MP3 player 2 years ago for my birthday. Within the past 2 years it has fallen out of my pocket whilst I was cycling on hard ground and also when quad biking in the rain and it's still working as well as the first day I used it. Im not a fan of iPod's because I consider them overrated and overpriced and when I found the HD3 for 150 with the capability to hold 20Gb, I was thrilled. I consider the battery life to be excellent, maybe not the hours that have been stated but I've fallen asleep many nights with it playing and woken up to it still playing the next morning (and considering Im a teenager we're talking sleeping for a very long time!) As for the software, I find it simple to use, perhaps because I've never used anything else to compare it to, but I found it easy to install and use on a daily basis. The only problem I've ever had with the HD3 has only been with the headphones. For some reason the style of headphone that comes with every MP3 player never seem to be able to sit in my ear so I bought a pair of Sennheiser CX300 Eco Ear Canal Headphones and that sorted the whole thing out. I'd recommend this MP3 player to anyone and you can see that it remains to be a quality piece of equipment as the price hasn't dropped much since I bought it 2 years ago.
Awesome!! Best MP3 Ever! June 27, 2007 M. A. Holt 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really dont see why this MP3 has had so many bad reviews. I bought this item from Argos when it first came out with a car attatchment and I have not looked back since. It has never crashed even when I have dropped it quite a few times. Sonic Stage is a brilliant piece of software, fast, efficient and works well with my laptop and PC. Since the both PC's were bought some years apart I can only conclude that people who are suffering software problems have either installed the program wrong or need to sort out their computers. As far as the Sony VS Apple goes I shall be safely taking Sonys side. My sister has bought an 80gb Video I-pod. I-tunes does not work well at all with Windows (Probably something Microsoft have doe to bug Apples products). The Sony MP3 has a higher volume output, works better and just for the record because you can compress files even more on Sonic stage you can actually get more songs on it, say per GB of memory the Sony wins by 2:1. Briliant still own it and wont give it up till it crashes. Had it for two and a half years and still going very strong, a must buy!
