A nice size unit which is easy to record. But picture quality through Scart not geat and keep getting an ERR message when trying to eject a disc.

I have decided to write a review for this product for 2 reasons:_
1. The reviews already written helped me decide to buuy it
2. I thin the product needs to be put into context in light of some of the negative reviews.
In a nutshell, I have had 8-9 DV tapes lying around for nearly 2 years now (most holding footage of an Australia trip we did in 2006). I have tried since then on too many occaisions to llist to capture the footage onto PC and edit it - with varying degree's of success. Mostly poor outcome's. I am very computer literate, but I think to do video editing on PC you need a really high spec PC and a very good software package - and that is where I fell short 9both accounts).
So - been toying with the idea of burning straight to DVD (actually bought software to do this on the pC first but the quality was poor). Had a samsung combi that could also do it (ie direct burn to DVD) but just as I was about to do it - the DVD drive packed in !! The service centre wanted 140 for the repair, and they are 150 new on ebay so I looked around for an alternative. Found this . Bought a refurbished model from Lurchtec or something for 34 !!
I am VERY VERY happy. Simple to set up (ie plug n play) - downloaded the manual from the link they gave me, and in two days I have burned ALL of my DV tapes onto DVD. Quality is excellent.
Very simple to use. I think the negative comments maybe to do with the lack of editing facility on the product. My response would be THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT IT ! If you want to edit - then do it on the pc. Once burned to DVD - editing on the PC is much easier and quicker than having to capture footage from DV first.
I was very lucky to find one at the price I paid, and took a risk as it ir refurbished - but it is like new. I maybe would not be so joyous if I had to oay 80 so look around for cheaper. Overall I am really happy - which is what prompted me to write a review in the first place !

I bought this attracted by the price and spec - including the USB connection. The first one I received had an immediate fault and I had to return it. The replacement is now defective after six months - it won't open to let me put in DVDs or take them out.
Either I've been incredibly unlucky or this product is a lemon.
My advice - look for an alternative.

It has it's niggles but for the price represents great value.
Yes response to the remote is sometimes slow or non-existent; though this seems to be because the box is busy doing its thing rather than the remote not working.
The editing feature could be improved, the preview window is small and you have to start from the beginning of the title you are editing everytime you make a change but to be honest at x32 ffwd it doesn't take too long to get through it. I can see it being a pain if you want to make lots of edits but for something like removing commercials every 15-20 mins it's bearable.
It doesn't do HD or upscaling, VideoPlus or have a Freeview tuner but none of these are issues for me, I don't need them, I have Sky+ and won't be going HD for a while yet.
On the plus side is does have two RGB scarts, a feature lacking in many budget recorders. Video quality is very good, even long play was surprisingly good.
There might be more negatives than pluses here but don't forget that price and that the negatives are not that bad unless you are easily annoyed, wanting a HD player or intending to use the internal tuner.

I got this dvd recorder for 55 from another source and its a great machine.It was so easy to set up........well it really set up itself.
I programed the multi-region code provided by other users on this site(many thanks for sharing this with all of us)I did what you said and I am now watching a dvd from america(region 1)titled "Lady sings the blues"featuring Diana Ross.
At this price you cannot afford to let this slip by..full marks for a great dvd recorder and so easy to set up(you will not need to get the grandchildren to set it up for you).
