So, need more memory for your Sony Digital Camera? Before this memory stick you were limited to just 128mb if your camera was slightly older and wouldn't understand those clever Memory Stick Pro thingys. But sure enough Sony, in a flash of inspiration, put a switch on the stick meaning double 128mb memory. Joyous, if only my battery lasted longer! So I put the memory stick in the camera and it works just like any other memory stick. Apart from one point, the little switch on its bottom. To change between each 128mb sector you have to remove the stick, flick the switch and then replace it. But is that such a hassle? Not really. If you, like I, use your memory stick for more than just taking pictures it's really useful that you can store music, word files, etc. on one half of the memory stick and then pictures in the other sector. Genius.
In terms of copying files, I copied a music directory of 56mbs on to this beauty. It took just under 3 minutes. Ok, this isn't lightning fast, and in a world of firewire and wireless communication it's no streaming video, but this isn't for video (apart from little mpeg ones), it's for photos and if you can copy 56mb in about 3 minutes I reckon that's 256mb in just under 14 minutes; not bad. If you compare that to floppy disks, or even zip disks, it's not a bad whack. Well worth investment, especially if going on holiday and you want to take loads of photos but not bother bringing a laptop to copy them to.
In terms of storage capacity, with my 3.2 megapixels camera, at fine/standard setting I can store the following:(in the 256mb, obviously half of each per sector)
2048x1536 164 (fine) 296 (standard)
1600x1200 266 (fine) 492 (standard)
1280x960 404 (fine) 750 (standard)
640x280 1578(fine) 3946(standard)
So why should you buy this memory stick? To be honest, 128mb is more than enough for the amount of pictures anyone could want to take unless they're planning on shooting hundreds of photos at a time (or have a huge megapixel count). I use the memory stick for moving important files, almost like one of those 256mb memory keys from one computer to another. I also plan, in the future, to buy a sony memory stick Mp3 player and know this will be a useful thing to own. And when I go on holiday this year I won't hesitate to take as many photos as I like. And all in a stick the size of a piece of chewing gum!
