Good Spec & Value! December 6, 2008 M. Parry (UK) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
After reading the reviews before me, I soon began to notice that this laptop had obviously something over the other models in the range let alone other models by other manufactuers. I reviewed the item elsewhere, looked at its Experience Index score (4.5), and generally familiarised myself with the product before deciding to purchase. Now, I have given this product 4 stars as in my opinion after reading some of the other reviews in comparision to the product im now using, they were possibly a bit too generous with the 5 star ratings, but I understand it's down to personal opinion. The laptop is great for the price. One thing for sure is you cant go wrong with what you get for the price. However, that doesnt mean it isnt faultless. The product seems well built and designed modernly fashioned dazzled with blue LEDs all over the place, in my opinion fancy but one might also say this is distracting. The Cinedash console works like an IPOD with the touch pad with background lights and as others say, proves more than useful with music & movies. The audio is also impressive and down to the Dolby Digital Home Theater making games, music and film all enjoyable for a laptop anyway. The system hardware is also capable of most tasks ie gaming but lacks certain refinement. I believe for a little more money they should have included a blu-ray drive to compliment the HD playback and maybe a faster CPU 2.2Ghz perhaps. The next model up is great but pricey and loses 1GB of RAM in exchange for the above features, which I think was a bad move on Acers part. Some users report that system load time from start to desktop is around or under 60 seconds. Mine took timed on my stopwatch just over 2 minutes excluding password logon. I wasnt too impressed to be honest, and it hasnt ever been any better than this implying that those users were possibly a little too generous or had no software installed; just pure vista. Compared to my other Acer Vista laptop with 2GB RAM and a dual core 1.6Ghz, the loadup seems identical and I unfortunetly only occasionally notice the difference probably thanks to the dedicated GFX, nothing more. I had also uninstalled all the useless Acer bundled software which drives me insane and is simply not required, along with the free trials of office & mcafee virus protection. I advise you do the same else that 2 minutes soon turns to 4 when you add your firewall and virus software. So in conclusion, great laptop with great specs & value. I cant fault whats included (except the pre installed software) more what isnt included (like a Blu Ray player or better CPU). I couldnt get it to turn on the other day though. Pressing the button rendered useless despite the power lights on etc. The fan would occasionally turn on and off like it had broken along with a dead screen. After a while messing around, I searched the internet on my PC, where a website suggested to remove the AC and battery, wait a minute and then re plug them in before turning the device on again, which did the trick (and gave me a sure fright). I just hope it isnt a regular occurance else its going back :) In all, one good thing; looks & screen size, one bad thing; that installed software which sees tons of icons in the taskbar and slow loadup speeds. 4 stars due to this, the power on problem, the longer than expected loadup speeds, no blu ray or higher spec CPU.

so im writing this to you on this very laptop. Ive had it about 2 months and i must say im very pleased with it. acer have put alot of thought into this laptop and it shows. its most usefull features are probably the media console which looks really cool! the finger print reader and the hotkeys along the right hand side of the key board. the speakers are amazing for a laptop and you can do pretty much anything you need to do very comftabley. i like to multitask and so this laptop comes with some great spec to allow me to do so. 4gb of ram is more than enough and the GPU (Nvidia GForce 9500MGS - 512 MB+) is excellent. ive been able to play games on this laptop with the settings at max. everythign about this laptop is great. i can think of only two draw backs and that would be that the glassy finish on the back pick up alot of fingerprints and greese marks from day to day handling and that i weighs a fair bit for a laptop but it is still good for a 16 inch and a brilliant one at that.
Great Laptop July 18, 2008 Moon (North Lanarkshire, Scotland) 22 out of 24 found this review helpful
After my desktop pc ran into problems including being fried during a lightning strike, i decided to opt for a lap top. I didn't by this from Amazon but a shop on the high street though. I'm amazed, the speed and specs of this laptop is higher specs than my old (desktop bought just over a year ago at a higher price) pc, including double the amount of RAM. Decent hard-drive size as well. Extremely quiet, and very smooth with most aplication tried so far. Swanky blue led lights all over the place and posh touch screen volume and media controls (you can still adjust the system through windows as well) Lovely touches with features, i had 2 monitors hooked up to this thing running fine, you an hook up at least 3 monitors/tv (hdmi connection) to take the signal and even has an option to turn off the laptop screen and use the external monitor instead. The down sides i would say is getting used to the keypad layout compared to the normal desktop type (if your used to that full size + number pad) and the keys can feel a bit spongey at times but still feels like a decent build quality, slight bummer with lack of blue-ray support also, but doesn't affect myself yet. I'd recomend this laptop to anyone. You can't really go wrong at this price.

Wow! What a fabulous machine! It's quick, good looking, very well made, comes with finger print ID and touch pad control. This is by far the best notebook I have owned.

I am totally amazed at this laptop. As soon as I pressed the start up button it only took approx.60 secs to ready itself to load up the homepage..It is very fast in loading pages even in Internet Explorer,it is even faster with FireFox.There are a few items of software loaded in the system if you want them but they are easy to uninstall if you do not want them. There is a finger print recognition strip on the touch pad.I found this very confusing at first ,but you have to read through the walk through to try to under stand it.I found that it would take several attempts to open the settings page and then found it could not delete my initial set up to open the settings page and it still would not recognize my fingerprint on several attemps. You have to make sure that your finger is square on the bar to set the settings. My advise is not to set it up until you have completly read and understood the instructions, other than that this laptop is the best that I have come across,it plays games that other laptops struggle with.Iloaded up Tombraider Anniversary and had know trouble at all in playing it.The graphics are really really good.It has dolby home theatre surround sound and the output is incredible. There is Acer arcade which is operated from the touch panel on the side of the key board. This is where you can operate your music, pictures and videos, rather like windows media centre, but much better. All in all this is agreat machine and it has that WOW factor..
