Liked it so much I bought another one January 4, 2009 Ian Brown (Ipswich England) I got one of these to try out the 'new' digital radios. After I had it for a while, it was so good I bought another one.
WYSIWYG January 2, 2009 Mr. P. Wren (UK) I liked this radio so much I bought a second on as a present for my Father. The radio itself isn't the most svelt piece of kit you'll ever come across - certainly bigger than a lot of FM radios on the block. But it looks nice and unobtrusive in the black. It's a great DAB radio that does exactly what it should do - it plays DAB channels without any fuss. It's easy to use, easy to setup and sounds pretty good. Anyone who's worried about finding DAB too technical shouldn't worry with this radio - if you can use a microwave or similar you can use this.
Over 2 years of daily use and still going strong... ! December 2, 2008 cbrynr (Wales) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this DAB radio over 2 years ago on the strength of a favourable review in Which? magazine. I got it to use in work where the reception on traditional FM radios was notoriously poor, but this DAB radio picks up far more stations than I ever listen to, and the results were so impressive that two of my colleagues went straight out and bought the same radio. All three of them are still going strong despite some rough treatment and constant daily use. The radio provides a good clear sound with plenty of volume for a small unit. It's easy to use with all of the controls handily placed in the same area at the front of the radio rather than spread across the sides and top. It has a handy display panel showing not just the station that you're tuned in to but also signal strength, volume and a digital clock. About the only niggle I've found is that it doesn't have a proper carrying handle, but as I don't move it very far that's not much of a complaint. Highly recommended for the money.
Good sound quality but flawed design December 1, 2008 D. Archbold (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have owned a Pure One for a couple of years. The sound quality is excellent but the design is very annoying to use (which I will explain further). As with most DAB radios the batteries do not last very long. You can buy a rechargable pack from Pure ( 30 - the radio already cost me 50) that will recharge when you run the radio on the mains supply. I have a set of rechargeable batteries that give me 6 - 8 hours use. The plastic hinges on the battery door are so flimsy however they have broken. The access for the mains supply is recessed - this means that if I wish to use a plug angled at 90 deg to the cable (which most seem to be) they don't fit. I have replaced the plug once on the charger supplied and looks like I am about to do it again. If you leave the radio plugged into the mains it wastes energy by displaying the time. The radio sets the time itself but a fair proportion of the time is one hour out before it corrects between BST or GMT. The single button that allows you to change station is difficult to operate with one hand - which is what you want do when sitting down or lying in bed. It is crying out for a carrying handle - It is designed to be carried in one hand held from the top (as they have provided a recess for your finger tips near the top on the back). As it is 2.75" wide for those with small hands or for the elderly this is inconvenient and you can't carry anything else in that hand at the same time. The on/off button is temperamental frequently needing a second push. I am now looking to replace with something better.
Probably worth spending more November 13, 2008 H. Luff (Oxford, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
45 is expensive for this item as it only worked properly for about 6 months. Similar problem to other reviewers. It doesn't pick up the signal anymore or is very temperamental at best.
