Be careful, this units has power issues. October 25, 2008 S. Page (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The unit, as supplied, has some issues regarding power. The power supply is under rated and the hub does not power manage properly. This is why I think the power supply on mine exploded, yes, exploded after 4 hours of use. I would avoid purchasing this unit as it is quite possibly unsafe. I have returned mine for a refund but that is a second lot of postage to get 7 returned, not worth it, hence I feel ripped off. Be warned!!!!!
Product blew up my Motherboard September 25, 2008 JohnD (U.K.) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this USB hub on 4 August, and on Friday 12 September, its power supply plug blew out sparks and smoke, and seemed to send a surge through all the USB connections because all USB items that were connected to the hub were blown. I have had to replace the Motherboard on the main system, the keyboard and the external USB 300 Gb hard drive.
Frustrating experience July 24, 2008 Mr. Eoghan D. Carbery (Chester, England) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought the hub to use with my PC lap top. Once plugged in the peripherals (mouse, scanner, etc.) worked fine, however upon reusing from stand-by mode the screen filled with an error message. The hub had a similar effect on my Mac mini, in both cases reinstalling the original hubs and rebooting rectified the problem. There may be an easy solution but it was beyond my knowledge. A search through the manufacturer 's website FAQ and forum failed to provide an answer so I sent an e-mail to the online support. Their solution was to suggest I read through the FAQ and forum. Pointing out in my follow up e-mail that this had been done to no avail, and asking them to provide further support it has all gone quiet their end. I should also note that when I first unplugged the hub from the electrical mains socket the plug's casing came away from the rest of the plug. On closer inspection the plastic shafts into which the two screws holding the plug together were both broken. Perhaps I have been unlucky but that has been my experience so far, unusable hub and flippant support!
Looks good but falls apart July 17, 2008 Mr. Jeremy A. Williams 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have just started to use the product. The aluminium sleeve is nice and heavy and the power supply is compact. But my unit fell apart as soon as I plugged the first cable in. The circuit board is held in place by small plastic clips which were too weak to hold properly. I can't recommend it for this reason.
No nonsense piece of kit. July 8, 2008 G. Robertson (Lincolnshire) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
On taking this out of the (minimal - good!) packaging, the first thing that struck me was the slightly weighty feel, even though it's small. This I like. Nice metallic finish to the casing, too. Value for money is very good compared to similar items, especially given it's got seven usb ports. Each of these has an L.E.D. that is lit when that particular port is in use. I deducted a mark, because there is no mains power L.E.D., either on the unit or on the transformer plug. It would be nice to know for sure that it is being mains powered. Other than that, I would recommend this product.
