Not pleased December 10, 2008 S. J. Ellis (Chesterfield, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a Dell pc with Vista and I tried to network it with a Dell pc with XP in another room. The connectivity was intermittent and generally unsatisfactory, even after installing the latest drivers. In the end the adaptor stopped working altogether. I contacted Netgear support but they could not help. I am very dissatisfied.
All the other reviews are rubbish !! August 2, 2008 POLESTAR69 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have used this adaptor both on computers running XP and now VISTA. I have had not 1 problem with using on either whatsoever. Other reviewers warn you about using it on VISTA - well all i did was to plug it into my new DELL desktop and it was up and running in 3 minutes !! I did'nt need to down load new drivers or anything. So where the other reviewers came across VISTA prolems i don't know. Great bit of kit.
Beware if using with VISTA or for Children January 12, 2008 TLM (Midlands, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been using the WG111 with XP machines for some time now. They are a robust and reasonably reliable adapter. However, if you are specifically considering purchasing one to use on a machine running with VISTA, beware that (at the time of writing), the two drivers available for download on the Netgear website which are intended for Vista, both have bugs. The drivers are for 32 and 64 bit machines respectively but have issues with the GUI - graphical interface. So long as you don't mind having to enter the administrator's password each time you connect or re-connect it could be bearable. However, if you use Parental Controls for kids and they have their own accounts, then be prepared to have to go and put the admin password in everytime they want to logon on or if the adapter drops packages and has to be re-connected. I found it to be a pain and promptly replaced it with a NextBlue adapter - also available at Amazon. Fortuantely, I already had the adapter for an XP machine. I would have been annoyed to have purchased one to run on VISTA without knowing about these issues. Netgear really should perfect their drivers before making them available to the public. Even if they do mention the bugs on their site, it is still ethically incorrect.
Not great range August 9, 2007 D. Grose 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Bought this for my desktop. I have my PC upstairs and the Netgear router is downstairs but this wireless adapter seems to drop the connection quite a lot. It especially doesn't like it if theres another wireless device in the near vacinity. But saying that when it does have a connection it's not too bad. I'm sure there are better available though.
Easy Install with a few niggles. July 12, 2007 Mr. P. Baker 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
The main problem with this product is the included CD doesn't have the Vista version on it. if you have Vista installed you have to go to the netgear website and download the Vista version before you can continue. The software takes you step by step through the install and setting up of your adapter. It then gives you the option of setting up your network connection using it's own software or using Windows own configuration. It found my network , asked me for a few details (password etc) and then connected me , this would be good for a novice trying to install a wireless network. The adapter has been working fine since , I've had no problems connecting or to my home network and transfer speeds seem fairly good. Another small niggle is the software puts it's own monitoring software in the system tray , when your PC starts under Vista you continually get asked to allow it to run. Removing that software from the startup folder makes your connection disconnect and the settings get lost. In the end I removed the monitoring software by deleting it's entry from the startup folder and manually connected vista to the network. Overall a decent product with a few 'niggles' that could be addressed in the included software.
