Works great ,,, straight out of the pack November 30, 2008 Mr. Nicholas R. Flynn (Devon) I bought this to set up a 75 year old friends wireless network ... I had read the reviews and was therefore forewarned about installing the software first ... Quite frankly, there were enough warning stickers and detailed ... but simple instructions to make you wonder how anyone would get this bit wrong. The setup took no more than a couple of minutes, we got excellent connectivity throughout her flat. I paid less than 20 through an Amazon trader, the card arrived 2 days later, and am very happy with the purchase.
Excellent coverage, recommended! February 12, 2008 The Glamster. (UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I completely recommend this card, but want to offer my story to give guidance to others. I bought this card to replace my 54Mbps Cable & Wireless card, as I wanted faster connectivity. When I first installed the card, using the installation CD it comes with, there were two options:- 1.) Use the Netgear Smartwizard. (recommended) 2.) Let Microsoft Windows configure the card. I chose the option that was highlighted as being recommended, Netgear, but in doing this upon "successful" installation, I had no IP address, but somehow I was still accessing the internet, then it kept crashing and then eventually it didn't work. I rang my ISP but because the internet was working through my modem, they would not help. I phoned Netgear, they didn't help either. So, I un-installed the card and then re-installed it, this time choosing Windows to configure the card. It worked instantly and perfectly. I have excellent signal strength everywhere in my house, and it is always at 108Mbps. I have a Netgear Rangemax WPN824 router, I'm using Windows XP and my house is a 3 bed room semi-detached. I would recommend this to anyone, for its range and signal strength, and for now knowing how to best install it, its ease of installation. :) I am no computer expert. I can use a computer pretty well, but when things go wrong I get lost, like most people. Hopefully to those that purchase it in future, my story will help and you can enjoy it, just like I am. Thanks for reading.
So far so good November 24, 2007 Sparkly (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm using XP and just installed this in about 2 mins, works perfectly so far. I'm not using a Netgear router (using a Speedtouch)and compatibility is fine. Only 54Mbps, but that may well be because I'm somewhat of a luddite and don't really know what I'm doing! I guess if I am and it was still so simple then it must be good!
Netgear WG511T 108 Mbps Wireless PC Card October 20, 2007 Tethys (Staffordshire, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Due to reports of incompatibilty, I was slightly wary of buying this as I'm using a reasonably old Toshiba SP4600. Fears turned out to be unfounded however, I've had absolutely no problems with it at all. Really simple to install. Put the disc in, do what it says, then put the card in. I haven't really tested the speed it can reach as my connection is only 54Mbps, but it recieves this with no problems whatsoever.
Random shutdowns/standby September 19, 2007 Sanjay (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this card recently and initially I was very happy with it. It has a good range and connects to my Linksys router flawlessly from anywhere in the house. Someone else mentioned that it seems to freeze on certain laptops. In my case, it randomly switches off my Dell Inspiron 7500 laptop (or puts it on stand by). I have the latest drivers installed for this card. In the end, I tried plugging my laptop directly into the router through a network cable and never had any problem.
